I am running the latest cuda drivers and boinc 6.4.5 on Windows XP 32bit
1 Cuda device is detected
8600 gts 256mb Ram
After detaching and re-attaching seti it still uses version 6.03, not 6.05 Any Idea??? Thanks.

Install this after you crunch what you have. Set to NNT till then.

Also you'll need this

Shouldn't it be automatically downloaded from the S@H-Server? I've got the same problem as Chris. Also tried detaching and even unsigning - and although BOINC recognizes my card as CUDA device 6.03 gets downloaded...
Best regards

There's been this issue that may prevent some from being able to download the files needed.

In order to keep our bandwidth from going bonkers due to all the new client downloads, we employ the use of Coral Cache. This is all well and good, except that some ISPs out there firewall http redirects, which means a tiny subset of users cannot download these new clients. This is unfortunate, as we have no choice because we can't handle the new client downloads ourselves. So these few users will suffer a bit until we can remove such caching.

Tried that. Nothing happened. But what do you mean with "Set to NNT till then"? Maybe that's my solution. My cc_config.xml is the following:

<cc_config>
<options>
<ncpus>3</ncpus>
</options>
</cc_config>

There's been this issue that may prevent some from being able to download the files needed.

Thanks for the information. By the way - is anyone from Germany using Alice DSL and has managed to download the cuda app? If so, then we know, that's not the problem. Although I would have no idea what it might be then. Maybe that I use Win2k?!
Best regards

NNT is No New Tasks. I was suggesting that you install the new app on an empty cache.

I'm not understanding "Tried that. Nothing happened." You couldn't download the app? The app didn't work?

Thanks. Well - I downloaded the package. Closed BOINC. Unpacked the archive to the S@H-folder and overwrote the app_info.xml. But still the Tasks are being calculated with 603. Same after detaching and getting new WUs.

When you detach you're deleting the files. You'll need to install them again, but you need to verify you're putting them in the Data Folder. I'm afraid I don't know exactly where that is for your OS. If you're not sure, and it's like XP it's in the C\Documents and Settings\All Users\"Application Data Folder", which is a hidden folder you'll have to unhide through folder options. Once you see that folder you can get to the projects folder and then the seti folder.

Could also be in a folder called ProgramData in the C drive.

If not you may have to do a search for Boinc folder including hidden folders.

Actually it's the same on Win2k - so yeah, I definetely found the right folder and unpacked the archive there. As I might have done something wrong by detaching, I again followed the procedure. Ended the BOINC-App, unpacked the archive, made sure the cc_config_xml is there, restarted BOINC - and then the two WUs that were already processed before, continued being processed by 603. As probably will be the others.

Guess I have to wait then for the normal distribution of the new cuda client. Or might there be something else to try?
Best regards

I'm afraid I don't understand your question :(
In the Boinc Manager at Tasks it says "SETI@home Enhanced 6.03" for all WUs. In the Windows Task Manager I have two setiathome_6.03.exe processes.
But I suppose that's not what you asked for....

Sorry, I meant Windows Task Manager...Again I'm not 100% sure you OS has one, You'd have to be able to view the processes running on your system. You'd be looking for MB_6.04_Win86_CUDA.exe, but I may have also found the problem.

GeForce 8100 doesn't appear to be supported for CUDA. Unless by chance it's GeForce 8100 mGPU, though if it's being reconized by Boinc as CUDA it should at least generate an error message if it wouldn't work.

Thanks for all your efforts (and Gundolf's as well of course). I appreciate it.

Well - definetely no MB_6.04_Win86_CUDA.exe in my process-list. And I suppose, simply overwriting the setiathome603.exe also isn't such a good idea?

As for the CUDA-support: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=4681716 <-- so I suppose everything's fine with me?

That file shouldn't even be there if the app_info.xml file is installed. It should have been deleted when you started up Boinc.

Well, there was no doubt that it was CUDA, there's just a doubt wether it will work on the apps, but the fact it is being seen is a good start.

Are you seeing the line
"|SETI@home|Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform" in the Boinc Manager message log?

No. Checked the whole log.
But I tried something else now. I've seen, the preferences get loaded from the S@H-Server. So I also edited the max. number of processors on the website to 3 (I have a Dual Core processor)
And now I indeed have three WUs being calculated at the same time - but still no sign of the new application - I have three setiathome603.exe instances now.

So I suppose the computing power has just been divided and now a third of the total processing power is used for each WU?! Or is now everything the way it's supposed to be?
Best regards

Then the app_info.xml and app is not installed.

This is normal if you adjust that setting, to that setting for your system. You're dividing your 2 cpu's into 3. Not really something you want to crunch with though. It also means the cc_config.xml is not in the Boinc Data folder.

For some reason, if you are putting the files in the correct folder, they aren't staying there. You could confirm that the app_info.xml, CUDA.exe, and 2 dll files are in the seti@home.berkeley.edu folder, by copy and paste into the same folder the setiathome_6.03_window_intel86.exe is in. As well as making sure the cc_config.xml file is in the Boinc folder, that is in the Application Data folder, though this can wait till you have the CUDA app working.

After that, if this is where the files already are, I can't think of any reason why the 6.03 app would still be running.

Thank you for your help. I'll wait then for the normal distribution of the client, that hopefully won't be too long from now on.
The files actually didn't seem to ever have vanished from where I put them
I have the following structure:

C:\Programs\BOINC
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data Folder\BOINC
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data Folder\BOINC\projects
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data Folder\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data Folder\BOINC\slots\0
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data Folder\BOINC\slots\1

S@H apps are in all of the last three folders. I unpacked the archive into all of these folders. No effect anyway. So unless someone still has an idea about what I might have done wrong, I'll sit and wait :)
Best regards

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data Folder\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu

is the only folder the files for the app go in.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data Folder\BOINC

is the folder the cc_config.xml goes in.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Are you sure to have stopped BOINC completely? Check in windows task manager for boinc.exe. To be sure, use the Shut down connected client... command from Advanced menu before copying the optimized application to the SETI project directory.

And are you sure that you didn't install in Protected Application Execution mode? (This time I do mean the BOINC service install :-) If you did, CUDA won't work anyway.

Gruß,
Gundolf
