I have 360 work unit credits and over 6000 hours of CPU time credits. How many credits are required before I am permitted to create a new thread on that board? |

You need to be an active cruncher, with BOINC, having returned work and been credited for that work. The amount is at least 1 Recent Average Credit or RAC. |

Your previous credits and cpu time are recorded as a momento of the now long defunct pre-BOINC SETI. AFAIK, you need to have a measurable RAC in order to post anywhere other than Q&A. I believe this is done in order to reserve those forums for active participants. |

I participated in the SETI Project for a number of years starting back in 2000. I recall watching carefully as the system completed tasks quite regularly. These were, of course, pre-BOINC days. I have recently come back to SETI and intend to participate regularly. I noticed that I am listed as a member since April, 2000 but my credits (until I finished a task today) was 0. I suspect that my old credits are lost ... but I just wanted to make sure that is the case. Thanks. |

Pre-BOINC didn't use credits, it just counted the work units you did. And these still show in your account: SETI@home classic workunits 156 SETI@home classic CPU time 2,015 hours They can't be exchanged to credits as it is impossible to know how long they ran for etc. So instead of going that way, those old WUs and their run time were preserved as a memento in your account, while everyone started from zero credits. |

umm, i guess i have enough credits since i;m posting ... but i had one dickens of a time logging in with either email addrs OR <authenticator>xxxxx</authenticator> which i found in a file that boinc does NOT indicate when an install fails and i ask for help. also, i *may* not be able to get to the right/better thread about system failure updating from 6.2.19 to 6.4.5. i have an .rtf file with appropriate data and screen shots of the install/upgrade failure on a vista-64 b0x. i was able to revert to a usable 6.2.19 (phew!) and rock on. now what? [tsty] {a t} (cyberspace.org) TEXT ONLY !!! please!! html is miserable on grex% which mail /usr/bin/mail grex.org == cyberspace.org |
