Hi guys and gals, I'm trying to find out if Boinc 6.4.4 is a stable release. From what I've read here, all the cuda beta testing was done on Boinc 6.4.5. I don't want to go to the aggravation of upgrading Boinc to find that it's not stable and sc***s up my system. I have a 9800GTX+ which is compatible, and no money to upgrade to core i7, so this is a cheap way to increase throughput. If it's successful, I may start doing ap units too.

Thoughts please?

regards, Gizbar.

Thanks Mike, I did hear on these boards that 6.4.5 wasn't stable. I'll see what the consensus is before I go for it.

regards, Gizbar.

That was a short while ago.

It's now been released to mainstream. Just hang-out for a few days to see how the bits settle.

Or... If you have the spare time, do a backup first and then try it and see!

Happy crunchin',
Martin

I havn't seen any problems with 6.4.5 however I don't have a CUDA card so that could make a difference.

I installed 6.4.5 earlier today and my shorties have been running just fine. Granted I use an app_info, so I'm not doing any CUDA tasks right now since app_info doesn't mention anything about it. Waiting for the Lunatics team to have some insight on what to do about that.

Time will tell, but so far, apparently identical to 6.2.19.

Okay, so maybe there might possibly be an issue here. Like I said, after upgrading to 6.4.5, a handful of shorties started going, and now it appears I'm stuck in EDF mode. WUs with a deadline of Jan 7 are running in high priority mode instead of the partially-completed tasks that were interrupted. I can understand the ones that had a deadline of Dec 24 since that's less than a week away, but Jan 7 is 20+ days.. shouldn't result in EDF.

then your most likely running it on the gpu so most of the time the cpu is doing nothing to help find the answer

It appears to me that the new Boinc 6.4.5 is working the cache by the due date of the work not in order received as was done previously.

OK...........I give up............

I don't see any logic to the order work is being crunched with Boinc 6.4.5. I thought it was in order of work due date but that's wrong.

Yeah, I just ended up going back to 6.2.19.. Took a little while to get back down to 4 WUs with partial progress instead of 12.

It almost seems to me (and others have said it today) that it wasn't quite ready for public launch.
