I am using the latest Boinc, and have Astopulse 5.0
task ending with # 15654 running now for several days.

So far it shows 176.55 cpu time and is at 76% completed.

WOW is this ok?

XP Pro, Amd athlon Xp 1700+ 1.54ghz 1Gb DDr ram.

AP is notoriously slow on AMD CPUs (I have an Opteron 1210 running Linux). Do you have the optimized app? It is much faster than the stock app.

Optimized? Prob not.
How can I tell which I have, I downloaded the newer Boinc
a few weeks ago from the normal website.

It's not the BOINC client that matters, but the AP application. Go down to the first post in this forum and get the optimized app for your CPU, SSE or SSE3, I don't know it enough to make a recommendation.
Better, go to the New Optimized applications READ ONLY thread.

Better to go via the official release announcement, rather than my provisional one (which the opening post leads to).

That task 1106435830 is certainly OK, the deadline is still about 20 days away and the host can finish in under 3 days.

If you do decide to install the optimized version, please remember that it will not update automatically so you need to check fairly often whether you need to do a manual update. Optimized should be at least twice as fast as stock though, so it's definitely worth using if you are willing to watch for changes.

Hi there,

I'm gettings 10s of errors in 3 of my six machines. Two of them are Linux and one is a brand new Dell Laptop.

All the errors are:

Client error Compute error 0.00 0.00

Below is a sample of these 3 machines:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=393542081
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=390994352
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=377490552

What can I do about it? I've re-installed Boinc on the two Linuxes machines and also on the Windows one.

Thank you.

They are all totally different errors, and none of them are anything to do with Optimised AstroPulse,
The first one is a Cuda Error, try newer Drivers, and look in the Q&A Cuda section!!, Really Do look in the Q&A Cuda Section!!
The second error sounds like a file permission issue, try the Q&A for Linux.
The third error is an AstroPulse error, but Stock AstroPulse, not optimised, try asking in the Windows Q&A section,
but you might want to turn off the Boinc Screensaver, or unselect Astropulse in your Preferences.
That made a total of 2 windows machines, and one linux.

Edit: Made links active.

Edit 2: added host links.

Thank you Claggy, I got it. In fact I posted the wrong URL for one of the Linux machine, but I noticed where you got the error and I had missed that. I will follow your advise and see if I can get the problems resolved.

Thanks

Yes. CPU is OC from 2.4 to 2.6 ghz.
Looks like the ram is OC from 533 to 585.
If thats whats causing the computer error for AP, I'll turn off the OC.

Besides, 200 mhz wont really make a ton of difference I dont think.

yes, this exception id typical for exessive OCing. Try to reduce it.

Yep, known and fairly rare these days (thank goodness). The stock code at the time actually told a little fib and printed that same error for two different conditions. A workaround / repair fixed the more common one by r69 optimised release. The second, rarer, place was not identified at the time of r69 release, but has further workaround applied in upcoming builds currently under test.

All you can do at the moment, is ensure the normal machine health is okay, and see if it happens again e.g, bios and drivers up to date, not suffering from bad defragmentation or lack of free space, AV program set to ignore boinc directories, memory integrity, that sortof thing.

Unfortunately stock still exhibits this odd behaviour in both the second rare, and first more common instances. The Berkeley codebase also seems to be on the move again which may delay next full release, though I might push for an interim release if this trouble occurs with more users going to AstroPulse.

Awaiting Astropulse validation to see if more recent test builds actually even validate. Also not sure how fast stock code changes would be introduced into, then make it through beta.

Hi,
Just curious what could be the cause of task 1112158422 to have what seems like an incomplete stderr. Is this something to be concerned about?

I'd keep an eye on it, to see that it validates & gets credit, but most likely nothing to worry about. By the time that last word 'single' is written, the result has already been stored and the program is effectively in the process of shutting down. Boinc sometimes terminates applications rather abruptly it seems, similar to the likely related issue below, and the stderr.txt buffer probably isn't flushed properly to disk by that stage. So consider it cosmetic for now, but a symptom of the deeper issues that have been looked at. [Edit: I'll place an additional flush after the incomplete text block is printed, to ensure the text is written to disk as quickly as possible, reducing the chance of this kind of event.]

[Later:] Hmm, looks like it *could possibly* also be the source of the 'exited with no finished file' warnings. Adding more paranoid code in next release.

New error :D and Not Overclocked.

Did I break it?

Try to use "leave app in memory when suspended" option in your settings for this host (and for all other hosts with enough amount of RAM).
It will increase host performance a little (no need to redo calculations sonce last checkpoint) and will free you from this kind of error.
As Jason said almost all possible was done to prevent app termination in the middle of disk write but as said here "no way against crow (it seems " might makes right" english equivalent). I mean if BOINC just terminates science app process.... This should be repaired, not science app itself.
