Hi there,

as you can see I've got a problem with my BOINC client..
SETI@Home is my only project, I checked the marks that the work can be done while computer is in use, gave it 100% because I read less doesn't work with some machines and I can't figute out why it won't work!
I've got a Mac mini (OS 10.5.5) and an UMTS internet connection (I've also checked the box to skip image verification which was recommended for UMTS connections).
I've never received any work yet, I want to get started for the first time.

Here are the messages:

You're using your local settings so you'd have to set the "skip image verification" in the Boinc Manager. If you set them on the web site haven't already set the in the Manager, you'd go to Advanced>Network Usage and look under Connect Options and place a check next to "skip image verification".

You also set your settings for Processor Usage and Disk and Memory Usage from there too so you'd want to make sure the cpu time is set in there at 100%, since you do have a multi cpu system.

It appears another option would be manually downloading seti_603.jpg and adding the file to the correct directory. You may also have to edit the client_state.xml file as well.

I've set it already to "Skip image file verification", "computing allowed while on batteries", "while computer is in use" (online and local too). I even set the Download/Upload rate to 100K because it was set to 0 (did that because I don't know whether 0 means as much as it needs or really zero)...
At Activity I checked "Run always" and "Network activity always available".

P.S. I'm trying the .jpeg thing right now, maybe it works.

You could try downloading seti 603 jpg and putting it in manually. Make sure to completely shut down BOINC before you download and place it in the folder. If you haven't alreday you could also have a look at this thread for info on the edit portion of the client_state.xml file.

Have you tried a project reset? Since you have no work units it can't hurt.

Alright, I downloaded it and put it in the Library / Project / Seti folder where the other Seti images have been downloaded to but it's still not working.

What's the thing with the daily quota?
Why the suspending when I'm not active??
The memory usage wasn't a 100% so I set it to a 100% as you can see (1024MB).
The status in the advanced view says: "Communication deferred x" x= time counter running down.

Btw, thanks for your help so far!

Because of the errors you've had, Boinc is limiting the work you recieve until you're able to return valid results and so the daily quota.
The suspending while user is active is in your Boinc Manager settings under Advanced>processor usage and then under " Computing allowed you should have a check next to "while computer is in use" though you mentioned you already had that set so I'm not sure why it is suspending.

If all has gone well with the reset, you should recieve more work but it may take a few hours or more till the quota reaches it's time limit. From what you posted it appears to have downloaded the needed files now to process the tasks once you get more. If you have any files still trying to download you could post that info so we can see where we are.

The Communication deferred x" x= time is telling you the next time Boinc will try and connect but may not be when you're assigned new work, that still depends on the daily quota.

I have my memory usage set at use at most 50% when computer is in use and use at most 90% while computer is idle, though I have had the first one set at 75% and noticed no difference. I'm not sure if you're confusing the setting I mentioned earlier to set to 100% which was " use at most 100% cpu time under the processor usage tab.

...
Why the suspending when I'm not active?

That's because of the following preference not set as shown.
Suspend work if no mouse/keyboard activity in last --- minutes
(Needed to enter low-power mode on some computers)
Enforced by version 5.10.14+

If there's a value greater than zero, BOINC will suspend after that time to allow hibernation mode of the computer.

As far as I know, this setting can only be made in the online preferences, so you need to force an update for it to take effect.

Gruß,
Gundolf

Ahhhhh, Someone else had that problem not too long back and it was that very setting we got them to change, but I thought because he was using the local preferences that would over ride those global ones. It would be great if they could add that setting to the Manager so folks don't have to go to two seperate places for the settings. Maybe in one of the future versions ;) ...Thanks for the info.

The local preferences only override the web site preferences that are available in both places. If there are preferences on the web site, but not in the local, the web site preferences will be used.

You can always hand edit the override file. This is how the override file originally worked.
