My computer's mother board died. I assembled a new one with new M.B., CPU, Memory, etc. Reinstalled BOINC and fired up. Now I show two computers. The old one is 1957952 the new one is 4662723. I understand why they show up as two different computers under my ID. Different cpu type. The old was Pentium 530, the new one is Core 2 E8400. I did not lose the contents of my old drive, but Windows boot sector was hosed. The old drive is attached to the new system as a second drive with all the data accessible. Question: is there a way to reprocess the two tasks that had been downloaded to my old system? I am already processing tasks on the new computer. Should I just let them time out? Oh, I am running Windows XP. |

My computer's mother board died. I wish that people would ask this question first. If you copy the entire boinc data directory tree, you can then install the new version on top of the copied install and be crunching away. There are two ways left: The most likely to work is: 1) Uninstall BOINC from the current directory. (This will not delete your data). 2) Install BOINC to the old directories (executable and data must match the locations on the old disk). 3) Mark all projects as No New Work when you start from the old location. 4) Wait for completion. 5) Uninstall from the old location. 6) Install into the new location and start again. The other method involves major surgery to client_state.xml, and is NOT recommended. BOINC WIKI |

Your solution worked perfectly. Ironically when I reinstalled on the old disk, the server figured out that the computer was different and changed CPU type of the old host number to my current cpu (E8400). After the tasks finished and updated reports, I de-installed and then reinstalled back on my new C: drive. All is well. Thanks a lot! |
