As we know, if we want to communicate to other, today; we shall use telephone, mobile phone or Internet. Why? Because they are faster than smoke, fire, bird and so on. Now, why we need only find E.T. by radio? Maybe they have used more advanced tech to communicate, like Quantum communication or others |

Until we actually develop the same level of communication as a more advanced civilization, we won't know exactly what to look for or be able to separate if from other noise. AstroPulse workunits are supposed to be looking for broadband signals instead of MultiBeam's narrow band. So at least there is some advancement going on when checking for ETI at SETI@Home. |

Work is also being done toward the detection of optical signals. Here are two links that may interest you: Optical SETI at Berkeley Optical SETI at Harvard |

quantum communication is no time delay, now, the fastest speed as we know is light's speed. If the distance of two objects larger than 299792458m, they will take a second on the spread. It is not real time. Every evolution of communication improve the speed of transfer, and reduce the time cost.So extraterrestrial intelligence MUST cost less delay time on communication |
