Hi all this the active SETI thread, please use it to post here your thoughts and of course the latest activities over active SETI. For my part i support active SETI and i believe we have to start sending signals to other stars if we want to communicate with ETs. The social network site Bebo.com has allowed its community to create a ground-breaking digital time capsule that will be beamed 120 trillion miles into space. The messages should reach it's destination by 2029 and if there is intelligent life out there... they *may* send a return message. Or not. But don't let that stop you. video : http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=_2zC-80rc7A A message from Earth introduction: www.amessagefromearth.com SETI |

my thoughts are about how sensitive is arecibo given the vastness of space because dont you think that a collection of several dishs like arecibo making some kind of a compound network forcusing on the same area in space would be more sensitive or even better several satelites in outer space again separated by vast distances and syn to point in particle area in space making a compound anterna would have a chance of picking a distant signal and anther thing i was wondering since black holes are able to bend light and yet radio waves have the same properties as light then over vast distances its possible that areas of the universe with alot of mass tend to trap the radio ways shielding us away from them, i am not an expert just my thoughts We choose to go to the moon and to do other things, we choose to go to the moon not because its easy but because its hard. kennedy |

Arecibo is One Radio telescope. It is the largest single Radio telescope in the world. As for having multiple telescopes searching. the Allen Telescope Array(ATA) does a simliar search to the astropulse. Further we as volunteers can barely keep up with the amoount of work being created. Berkeley doesnt have the capacity to expand their science databases any further due to space and financial limitations. Please feel free to read about how SETI works. They pretty much cover all the bases there. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Anther way we can search for ET in near future is by use of time lapse photograph, since we know that all species advanced will be able to modify the planets surface . if we took high resolution images of newly discovered planets over several years , we should be able to quickly indentify those whose surface is being changed.I am not sure if we could bore the idea that since earth is at an inclination of 0 degrees to our sun then the most likely extra solar planets with an ideal enviroment for life would also be at 0 degrees , thats if the are not orbiting a binary star system or have complex moon system. We choose to go to the moon and to do other things, we choose to go to the moon not because its easy but because its hard. kennedy |
