McCain just said Fannie Mae made bad loans. Not true, Fannie insures loans it does not make them. Post you own catches. Fannie Mae (and Freddie Mac) buy loans from mortgage originators, such as banks and non-bank mortgage firms. It repackages the loans, as mortgage backed securities, and sells them on the secondary mortgage market, with a guarantee that the interest and principal will be paid, whether or not the original borrower pays. Also, Fannie Mae may hold the purchased mortgages for its own portfolio. By purchasing the mortgages, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac provide banks and other financial institutions with fresh money to make new loans. This gives the United States housing and credit markets flexibility and liquidity.[11] |

Maybe I'll turn this into my RANT thread. Brokaw just twisted a question into a demand from him. He said basically said "Tell me how you are going to reform Social Security and Healthcare entitlements!!!" It didn't sound like a question it sounded like a demand. More of the rich media saying that the poor should be screwed. Who said that reform was needed? A rich media dufus thats who. |

I think they both did ok. I like Obama's answers better, but I didn't see anyone of them making any big mistakes that will hurt them with the voters that they already have in their camp. With that said, I really hated the part at the end where McCain kept trying to scare people into thinking Obama would invade Pakistan. All he said was that if we know for sure that Bin laden is in Pakistan and Pakistan will not or can not get him then we will. I'm sorry, but i agree. I think we would have to. But back to what I said first, I think they both did a good job. Chris. |

. . . you would think that IF somebody (either Candidate) 'has a plan to capture and kill Osama Bin Laden' - wouldn't it be 'smart' to go ahead and do THAT right away - and NOT wait to see IF they're Elected OR not . . . ;0 BOINC Wiki . . . Science Status Page . . . |

I agree with you. But I have to say that I don't think Obama or McCain could do it now even if they had plans. It is the president, in our case Bushy, that controls what the military does. I do think that Obama seems to care more about crushing bin laden. I have always thought that the "war on terror" could be over quickly if we crushed the leadership early in the war. Now, it is sad, because we have let them grow for almost eight years. Chris.

More of the rich media saying that the poor should be screwed. Who said that reform was needed? A rich media dufus thats who. Brokaw wanted a direct answer. Social Security is running out of cash. I also happen to know several people on Social Security Disability who are scamming the system who are perfectly capable of working. Therefore I agree it needs reform |

I have always thought that the "war on terror" could be over quickly if we crushed the leadership early in the war. I thought the same thing about the "war on drugs"......... TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |
