Did they get hacked? Domain redirect thingy? It's just showing some placeholder page now.

Looks like the front page is working... maybe the database server crashed? It seems like all dynamic data isn't working. Well that and the CSS. I'm sure Zain is workin' on it :)

Hmm. Looks like they restored an old version.

Okay, guess I panicked a bit too soon! (I'd miss my little jumpy arrows...)

Something is wrong with their site - I received first a 404 error, after that - a normal stats page, and after that - stupid congratulations about my new website.
Are they hacked or wrong DNS?

I did see the 404 message this morning about "this page could not be displayed".
Now I have a normal stats page but from 2.05 days ago. :-(

That's from a week ago and it doesn't address the weird 404 errors and such.

True, I did say it was from the bowels of my memory. I just wondered though, as it said about moving next week (now this week) plus the isp being a litle uncooperative if it might point to part of the problem.

Wonder if, as cpdn etc. are updating, there is a lack of xml data from sah.

I have seen 404 errors occur on a change over with isp's but it is unusual I admit. Could be an IP/DNS problem.

Just me thoughts.

Hello all,

Zain here... the owner of SETI Synergy and the stats pages.

What happened? ... well to be honest beats me. Looks like this weekend I have something to track down.

All the files are there, there is nothing sinister in any logs I keep as far as hackers etc... there are no NEW or modified files anywhere in the directory tree.

DNS/IP thing? Maybe, if so it would be a system/network admin person who has changed it accidently. Strange intermittent error.

Anyway, I will get to the bottom of it (hopefully)..

In response to a few people who are asking WHY the XML for SETI@Home is NOT updating at the stats site but they are on OTHER stats sites... the answer lies in this list...

Parent Directory 28-Sep-2004 12:00 -
core_versions.xml 27-Sep-2004 13:15 1k
db_dump.xml 27-Sep-2004 13:15 1k
host.gz 27-Sep-2004 13:14 11.5M
tables.xml 27-Sep-2004 13:15 1k
team.gz 27-Sep-2004 13:15 878k
user.gz 27-Sep-2004 12:45 3.4M

As you can see SETI@Home BOINC (the project) has not updated their XML files since the 27th. My stats site checks these files HOURLY, and if they have changed it updates the databases. If not it doesnt waste the bandwidth downloading them again. As soon as these files are updated, the stats pages will be updated.

I hope everyone is having a happy time crunching away!

Keep crunching hard,

Zain Upton (in warming up Adelaide Australia).

Thanks for the update, Zain.

And what an awesome name, too.

Thanks for that. Whats even stranger (and really annoying) is that sometimes these problems go away and we never know why. I have nearly driven myself mad looking at logs on a couple of occasions. Trouble is you can sit looking at it and nothing walk away for a coffee or even blink and it has been and gone.

Good luck

David Taylor

David (and others)

Well beats me *LOL*. Had a good look around through all my logs... nothing. Must have been a temporary IP thing somehow. All I can do now is watch and wait (for it to hopefully not happen again)

*evil grin*

He,He!

Know the feeling only too well. Guarantee it won,t happen again till the little gremlin gets bored and knows no one is watching and you have stopped thinking have I done something, has someone else done, is it all falling apart, did I kick the cat too hard, was the hammer to big... Well you know the sort of thing.

Fingers crossed, happy hunting.

David
