Message 817006 - Posted: 11 Oct 2008, 10:09:57 UTC - in response to Message 816479.

Hi Richard,

I'm not sure that this is connected to your post but have found on occasions that the report dates have been reversed i.e. 27:11:2008 as 11:27:2008, not noticable so much below 12:10:2008 as 10:12:2008 .

I took it to be a screen refresh problem as coming off and back on the dates were correctly printed.

This was on both 6:2:19 and prerelease 6:3:10.

Anyone else seen this.

Michael

In the case of the dates, it could be a localisation problem - in Windows at least, BOINC displays dates in the order/format specified in Regional Settings. I've reported an apparent bug where, sorting by date in a regional format specifying 12-hour clock, the sort algorithm ignored the AM/PM flags.

In the case of the IP addresses, I wondered whether it was a display bug rather than a functional bug, but decided it wasn't - the reversed SETI server address turns out to be stealthed and unresponsive, and sure enough BOINC doesn't get a reply when it displays that it's trying to use it. But if BOINC displays that it's trying the correct address, then it also (in every example I've seen) displays a meaningful reply from the server it's trying to reach.

What I haven't tracked down yet is the point at which the IP address gets reversed - it doesn't start like that. Perhaps Matt could crash the server again so I can do some more testing????? LOL.

Some get through, some don't. They just struggle to get heard above the noise of the downloads (see the Cricket graphs). Matt is splitting shorties again.

Edit - he's also splitting AP, and probably more people are downloading AP WUs now that the opti app is public. The combination of AP tasks (big downloads) and shorty MB tasks (lots of downloads) is pretty poisonous to the data pipe.

So that be the reason I'm getting errors on downloading and such, sigh, At least My PCs are doing ok, Seti needs more bandwidth to do both AP and MB It seems. :( But I'll keep on crunching, What choice do I have?

I just wish we could find a benefactor that could donate a Gb point to point link for them to get that bandwidth down the mountain.

Short of one of US here winning a Lottery for a lot of money, I'm afraid Yer right.

Right now Angel is cold most likely as It's 72F in here and 47F outside and the pilot for the heater is off and calling SW Gas to do that isn't possible right now, Monday at the earliest, But At least I got the New plastic(w/foam weatherstripping inside the cover for $52.00 total) swamp cooler cover on the cooler now.

Aren't there re-light instructions on the furnace? Not having a furnace work when you need it stinks. BTDT.

Instructions? Actually no(besides It's very hard to see where to light and I've tried It already in years past), The place was built in a factory in 1987 and I bought the place used in 2006(packing It up, moving It and setting It up was a small adventure in and of Itself to the tune of about $7,000.00 and required 3 separate companies to accomplish the move over a state line(NV to CA)), In any case It's almost 73F now and 54F outside, Meanwhile I'm just letting the PCs handle the slow uploads which seems to clear by morning by some miracle.

I am beginning to wonder if the problems are a function of scaling limitations -- which might not be resolved by simply tossing more money and hardware at the problem.

That, and the need for a giant pair of scissors to cut red tape. I think we could all do with one of those...

Ah yes, Seti is poor and Berkeley who might have the money won't help for some reason. Hopefully this isn't true of course, But Hey I'd have to be a mind reader or in the loop to know for sure.

Like I said........it's politics........
And the admins at Berkeley don't know which side their bread is buttered on........
Don't they realize the publicity and the recognition that Seti brings to their table?????
You would think they would bow over and give the project anything they ask for........not that they beg for much........
But geez............a little investment in bandwidth????

Come on, admins........I am a little guy, and I have donated, can't you?

I hope this rant is not out of line, and somebody who cares and can do will read it.............

And go frickin' figure........it looks like the upload server just got nuked again.............
