The topic: Palin. Well It is her big night and I will be doing my college homework tonight. Sorry, but I didn't get a chance to watch obama as well. So the question is: Is Palin a gimmick to get woman voters or the real deal? Or is it to counter the fact that the Dems have a chance of making history with a black president so the GOP wants to make history with a white womam VP? Or is it once again the real deal? Really please post anything about Palin (good or bad). But if you can please stay away from the teen pregnancy thing unless it is in reference to the GOP's abstinence policy vs birth control. THANKS!

Also one more question to talk about ... Did Palin say the quote below? I think so, based on hearing it on the local news hear and then a quick google, but I don't know for sure ... I wonder is the god Zeus?

Speaking before the Pentecostal church, palin painted the current war in Iraq as a messianic affair in which the United States could act out the will of the Lord.

"Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God," she exhorted the congregants. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan."

I hope not.

I was for McCain and now I probably won't vote again. I don't think McCain did his homework and do believe it is because a black man is running for the Dems. Obama got his big Poll jump but not untill Palin was announced, I bet about now McCain wishes he could change his mind. It sucks as I like McCain as a person and he really helped me out once but I am not going to Gamble that he will live 4 years more or so.

I have liked McCain in the past as well. But I decided that I am not going to vote for him. I made my decision a few weeks ago. I am not sure if I am going to vote for Obama or not. I plan on waiting about a month and then review both men again. Maybe then I can decide to support McCain again or go with Obama.

Thanks for your reply. I too think he may be having second thoughts. However, it just might work out for him ... with the buzz.

Chris.

My opinion is that it will tend to get the support of the values conservatives, and tend to drive away the moderates. The liberals were mostly voting for Obama anyway.

I agree with you not to mention that black or white this country is in trouble. I believe that Obama offers more for our generation than McCain does and his VP Palin is a sad choice considering that they are women in the party with much more to offer than this woman. McCain did it because regardless of what the polls say he is losing.

I think that Sara Palin is being used by McCain and the reason being is that is very clear to anyone that has been following the race that John McCain is losing thus comes Sara Palin. The mistake that McCain has made is believing that We the People will not see through this.

Good points. Do you think any liberal woman may jump ship to make history ... not that doing so is always a bad thing. Sometimes making history can have a greater impact than selecting the better president (not saying obama is, just using as an example). It is an interesting arguement you could use the other way around. Will a few black members of the GOP change sides to make history. Maybe not even tell their fellow members in the GOP ... or the other way around women liberals may not tell others.

I think the middle will split for both men. I don't think McCain really is a right winger and I don't think that obama is a nut from the left.

Here is another question .... is Palin ready to be president after four years ... or is there a way that McCain can run again?

Chris.

So painful watching the RNC tonight,

They are really trying hard to hang on for dear life. Worst I've ever seen.

I strongly supported McCain in 2000. I thought the way the Bush campaign treated him before the South Carolina primary was downright sleazy. Sadly, the tactics worked. McCain has spent much of the last 18 months cozying up to the "further right" of the Republican Party. Now the Republican campaign commercials no longer talk about the issues or even about McCain. Now they just bash the Democrats. Judging by last night, this is their game plan for the rest of the campaign. Who knows? It might work yet again. But not with me.

I hoped it would be different this time.

If anyone thinks there are enough voting 'liberals' to outvote the grannies, the boomers, the veterans, the christians, the mormons, the feminists, and all the goons these groups control... You are gonna be in for a very big surprise... ;)

(Even if there are enough votes, you'll be in for an even bigger surprise... and it won't be very 'christ-like'.)

The original motive might have been to pick a conservative woman to garner the disaffected Hillary Clinton's women's vote.

I think McCain may just have lucked out. Remember Harry Truman was just a common man of the people as well. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn now and again. We'll see how the facts roll out during the next few weeks.

Actually I was in favor of Bob Blabba.

regards,

DADDIO

Well, that's interesting. I fit three of the six labels. A boomer who is a christian and a veteran. I also registered Republican before changing to independent. But down here in the Bible belt, I'm considered a liberal. Like the song says, "Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right."
