Hey i was just wondering... if and when someones pc does confirm that were not alone does seti give credit to the computer owner? because if i do say so myself that would be an interesting thing to put on my resume "helped confirm life on other plannets" just wondering

That is the plan. But you may not know it immediately because the infamous "wow" signal must be confirmed by a group of scientists. Also, since every workunit is processed by more than one person, you'll have to share the credit with your quorum partner(s).

That is the plan. But you may not know it immediately because the infamous "wow" signal must be confirmed by a group of scientists. Also, since every workunit is processed by more than one person, you'll have to share the credit with your quorum partner(s).

And it is going to take several WUs where the telescope is aimed at the same part of the sky on different nights to confirm the signal. So there would be several finders that are probably spread across a few years. For all you know, you have already found the WOW signal but we are awaiting confirmation.
