yes, Boinc really, really, really
does crash my computer, and
no "ctrl-alt-del" no "push-the-power-button,"
I must pull plug from wall.

(Windows XP)

why, please???

____________
I want the SETI@home rainbow animated "graph" display
back again as my screen-saver (it was so soothing); but I can't find how!
Can anyone help me?
thx

When was the last time you cleaned out the dust bunnies from your system? It could be a problem of excess heat. A can of compressed air used on heatsink, fan and power supply can work wonders.

Running Boinc does push your system a little harder then your basic computer use. This could be an early warning that some component in your system is on the edge of failure. There are stress test programs you could use to try to identify the weak component. I can't recall the names at the moment. Perhaps someone can post this info for you.

Another possibility, although much less likely, is that your still using a very old version of Boinc (V5.4.11 originally released for testing Aug 03, 2006). The last WU you crunched was Seti enhanced V6.02 which is written to take advantage of Boinc V6. It may be time to consider upgrading.

There is a known problem with the screen saver - use the blank screen saver instead. BOINC does not need the screen saver running in order to do work.
