At this point in time now would be a good time to shut down Seti Classic. For better or worse, we are all committed to the BOINC Seti project. The addition of the Seti Classic hardware would likely go a long way to alleviating some of the server loads BOINC currently suffers from.

I would also like to add that the BOINC project and forums has made for excellent spectator sport all summer! The passion people have displayed (positive and negative) continues to be engaging and entertaining!

Rock on Seti!

Yes, but they are already suffering from the glut of people here causing problems. So I am not sure adding another 20,000 to 200,000 new participants is in the best interests right now ...

Yes we are committed to BOINC for better or worse, but the last thing we need is more people ...

Even though the hardware would be welcome, it is very possible that it won't make much of a difference and the old timeline was set to not start that migration untill the cross-platform GUI was up and running ... cheer on Rom ... :)

Besides, where would the folks that threaten to leave every few days go?

IMHO the time is coming relatively soon... the cross-platform GUI is (from what I hear) a couple of weeks away.

CyberGoyle: hope you aren't too fanatic about only running seti because when all the classic users come over, they simply won't have enough work units to feed us all. I personally be going strong on CPDN and LHC :)

Oh geez.....can you imagine 500,000 active users on sah boinc! The problems experienced so far would pale into insignificance.....give us pending credit and viewing results first please....cap the number of users to something where the servers can cope....and get rid of the crap admin currently running sah boinc.

Happy crunching!

Perhaps the best time is when the hardware/software problems are all sorted and things have been stable for X amount of time. Then open up new accoutnts on a 5 to ten thousand basis over a period. If this is done slowly then problems can be sorted on a reasonable time scale. To flood sah boinc with all classic users over night would be a disaster no matter how stable things are and it would be a nightmare for all the developers involved.

Just my thoughts as I have only changed over a short time ago but read about and observed the problems thus far. Things are coming together in the right way slowly but surely.

Kill Classic, and build more radio telescopes to supply the demand of WU for BOINC SETI!

Don't forget one of the long term goals of BOINC is to also allow UCB to finish Astropluse and then we need the Southern Hemisphere ... and something else.

But the others are right, either there is going to be a famine or we need to get more "capacity" on the processing end. Heck, if I can, I am going to be up to 4 HT machines, one Dual Mac and one laggard 2.8 GHz file server.

Zing!

The game High/Low is played by tossing two nuclear warheads into the air. The one whose bomb explodes higher wins. This game is usually played by people of low intelligence, hence the name High/Low.

Oh, my yes ... I forgot to say that too ... :)

Maybe we can get them to Folding@Home (at least until they switch over to BOINC, if and when - and no, I don't even have rumors).
