Can an audible scanning feature be added into the SETI@home program? Its a great screensaver (the classic graphical scanning feature which i cant get to use as a screensaver because of the BOINC crap ((liked classic version better)) I know its possible to audibly hear the "noise" from space but if it was downloadable and useable as an .mp3 or .wav, can the seti@home program be edited to scan through it as well as being able to hear it through the pc's speakers? |

As it has been pointed out, in several post before, what we are analyzing is a 12 second slice of high frequency noise which is then manipulated to compensate for the rotation of the earth, and movement of the telescope. It sounds like the static of a radio between channels. The few people that this noise might intrigue rather irritate after a few minutes is not worth the scientist time to program into the Seti software. A third party add-on is about the only thing you can ever expect to see. Edit: I see Wendy has already posted a link to the latest thread that discussed this subject. S@H is, I believe, analysing a 115 second slice. But it is high frequency noise. BOINC WIKI |
