I have a wu that has restarted at 0% 2 times, restarts like this were a chronic problem with the previous version of boinc but I have upgraded. To my relief, things were running smoothly until this wu started. Is this still an issue with Vista compatibility and is there anything that I can do about it? |

It might just be a problem with the wu. What version of BOINC? Are you running an optimized application? Are you running a screensaver? Have you limited the cpu %? Wendy Click Here for BOINC FAQ Service |

It might just be a problem with the wu. What version of BOINC? Are you running an optimized application? Are you running a screensaver? Have you limited the cpu %? I'm running 6.2.16 unoptimized and am currently using a windows screensaver. Cpu% is limited to 30%. |

Well, I've heard of issues with running version 6 and using boinc as your screensaver. But I'm not sure if that is what you are seeing are not. Is this on a MB or AP unit? Maybe someone else will pop in with some ideas. Wendy |

Well, both units that I am running have restarted now, there both normal units (not astropulse). something that maybe of interest is all the units that I have completed, since upgrading, w/out restarts have been small ones (5 hrs.), these two are larger ones (13 hrs. and 11 hrs.). |

It might just be a problem with the wu. What version of BOINC? Are you running an optimized application? Are you running a screensaver? Have you limited the cpu %? The last time I heard from Jord (Ageless) was that the restarting WU bug is related to the CPU throttling. You said you upgraded to the latest BOINC version, so I'm assuming that's v6.2.16? If so, it sounds like the bug hasn't been fixed. |

The fix for this is postponed to a future version of BOINC with a better way of using the throttling function. With future version, I mean something like 6.4 or 6.6, not any of the (still coming) 6.2 versions. In the mean time, what can you do? Well, either set your throttling to 100% (no throttle), or tell BOINC to use one CPU only. If you do want to throttle, use a third party program such as Threadmaster or BES. |

i'm having problems restarting keep getting messages to reboot but to no avail am running the graph scfeen saver but its not working eithr even after resetting under systems The graphics screen saver for S@H is not yet ready for BOINC 6.x. 6.x requires a completely new way of doing the graphics for the screen saver. S@H is, I believe, releasing a new version with 6.x compatible graphics soon. You should only get one message to reboot, not multiples. BOINC WIKI |

You should only get one message to reboot, not multiples. lol, upon installation yes, but I think he means the "task exited with zero status but no 'finished' file. If this happens frequently, reboot your system" message. For that message I have a nice juicy FAQ, which may or may not hold the solution for your problem. |

I have been down for a while and want to start crunching again, but I have a question before doing so; Would setting CPU throttling to 100% cause my laptop to run hotter? |

I have been down for a while and want to start crunching again, but I have a question before doing so; Would setting CPU throttling to 100% cause my laptop to run hotter? Yes. Some laptops have sufficient cooling to cope with 100% CPU load and some don't. If you have the laptop on a cooling stand, it will run cooler. Warning, setting the CPU usage % to < 100% does not work well on some multi CPU machines. You need to set the % of CPUs instead. BOINC WIKI |

I have been down for a while and want to start crunching again, but I have a question before doing so; Would setting CPU throttling to 100% cause my laptop to run hotter? It's set to use 50% CPUs on a duel core processer and is set to use 30% CPU time. Running it unthrottled is the only option left that I am aware of the can fix the problem that has been plaging me, however it is not my preferd option. My computer alredy runs hot. So, any other sugestions are welcome. |

I have been down for a while and want to start crunching again, but I have a question before doing so; Would setting CPU throttling to 100% cause my laptop to run hotter? It should be OK witn 50% CPUs and 100% CPU time. BOINC WIKI |
