Work Units on my Mac are beginning to back up. I am completing them but they are not uploading at all. In my logs I am getting a bunch of messages like this: Sat Aug 9 16:02:17 2008|SETI@home|Started upload of 11jn08aa.6249.20522.15.8.20_0_0 Sat Aug 9 16:02:18 2008||Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site Sat Aug 9 16:02:18 2008|SETI@home|Temporarily failed upload of 11jn08aa.6249.20522.15.8.20_0_0: system connect Sat Aug 9 16:02:18 2008|SETI@home|Backing off 2 hr 46 min 34 sec on upload of 11jn08aa.6249.20522.15.8.20_0_0 Sat Aug 9 16:02:19 2008||Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down. This has been going on for multiple days. The BOINC status pages says the servers are up. I have restarted the BOINC Manager and I have restarted the machine. Any ideas why I cant upload completed work units? |

Work Units on my Mac are beginning to back up. I am completing them but they are not uploading at all. See this. Green is outgoing (to us) blue is incoming (to SETI). As you can see, the router is DOA. Nothing in, nothing out. Clk2HlpSetiCty:::PayIt4ward |

I updated to the latest BOINC client and this did not help at all. The message is slightly different now though... Is there somewhere I can look to tell me if he servers are really up or down? I was looking here: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_status.html |

Thats the status page, but it's seldom accurate. They sometimes have the situation where the Server processes are technically running, but not doing anything for some other reason (network problems, lack of disk space etc) Right now there seems to be a major disruption that needs fixing on the server end, just have to wait it out. Rosetta is a great project with (usually) minimal downtime. The great part of joining multiple projects is that you can crunch for a different one while one is having problems, and return when the problems are fixed. |

Climate Prediction (CPDN) is another good choice as well. Of course, their units are really large, but at least they have trickles so you can get credit regularly. Wendy Click Here for BOINC FAQ Service |

Eric has been contacted but is having issues getting to the machine remotely. So he is working on it. No ETA Not having a go at anyone but I remember when I first heard of the Seti work around 9 years ago. I mean the fact that I could add to their data just by running a program on my PC. Loved the idea. Did it with an old P2 233 and a dial up line and progressed over the years to what I have now (which isnt much compared to all of you). I was, back then and still am now, happy to put in time when my computers are on and running (excepting my laptop which I really have to conserve for income purposes)and love the idea that in my lifetime, maybe something will come of it. Maybe not but hey, it isnt hurting me any to do it. What I can never understand is the push to be number one. Oh sure, I check my own stats now and then. Sometimes for fun, a lot of the time to see if Boinc is having yet another "rest". ;-} So I can never see why I would try to do the work of other projects. Sure there are some good reasons for doing them but so long as Seti has packets to feed me, I have computers to process them (even the old P3 600Mhz does its bit, built by me back in late 99). I guess I am saying I cant see why people just cant be happy with it and leave the competition for the bowling days etc.... ....but then that's me. I dont see helping as a competition in that I have to help MORE than others to be BETTER than others. Its almost like religion. If you dont have a certain brand, others dont like it. Bugger it. If you like it, be happy with it and I LIKE SETI!! Crazy time over for now. Have fun, be happy and remember the one important thing in life: Friar Tuck was the butt of Spoonerism jokes amongst the Merry Men. |

Right -- Climate has been a reliable BOINC citizen. Also, for that matter, Rosetta, Malaria, and Spinhenge are favorites of mine. World Grid is a bit different about how they do things, but it also has run reliably. That being said, the SETI message board environment is the best of the projects and the interaction with tech folks (particularly Matt's regular bloglike messages) is super. Climate Prediction (CPDN) is another good choice as well. Of course, their units are really large, but at least they have trickles so you can get credit regularly. |

How much of this download/upload problem is of our own making I have 3 hosts two quads and a Duo this requires a minimum of ten WU's where as six months ago before I replaced them they were all single core and required only three Wu's All extra work for the splitters and extra storage when returned. It would be interesting to compare hosts/CPU Michael |

I've got 12 on my laptop waiting to upload and 5 on this PC. This PC and my main cruncher are chewing on AP right now, still 50+ hours here and 30+ hours at home left to go on AP. I wouldn't let the laptop have an AP, takes 75-120 hours on the 2 I've got going now. The AP workunits are good for the weekends, they help to make sure I've got enough work to last until Matt & Co come in on Monday and kick the servers. I've been crunching SETI from almost the 1st day it was available, and I plan to be crunching right up until the day they shut the servers down for good. Don't stress over workunits not uploading, they'll get things resolved and we'll be able to upload by mid-day on Monday, I have no doubt. |
