This is a photo of Wizard Island in Crater Lake. This was taken on July 4th of last year.

wow.. That looks like a great place to go hiking. Are you allowed to go out to the Island and camp on it?. I like to go hiking and find that the bush is such a good way to have a rest from the office. Excuse my ignorance but where is Crater Lake , what state.. Im from downunder so dont know.

Hmmm. Not to be too obnoxious, but here's the first link Google offers when searching for "Crater Lake":

Crater Lake is located in Southern Oregon on the crest of the Cascade Mountain range, 100 miles (160 km) east of the Pacific Ocean. It lies inside a caldera, or volcanic basin, created when the 12,000 foot (3,660 meter) high Mount Mazama collapsed 7,700 years ago following a large eruption.

At least that covers the "where" part of the question. :-)

Sorry but the answer is no. You can take a boat tour of the lake, but you can't go on the island itself. There is however plenty of opportunity to hike and camp in the National Park. But no fires are permitted except in authorized camping areas, and most of those areas do not allow fires this time of year due to fire danger.
IMHO... The Crater Lake National Park is one of the most beautiful right up there with The Grand Canyon and Yosemite National Parks.

A little more info On Wizard Island. Wizard Island is a cinder cone that occurred after rhe lake was formed some 5,000 years ago.

Some small yellow mushrooms in amongst the ferns, about half way along the trail.

Thank you, I had managed to drop and break my old camera and didnt have one for quite a while... so I went crazy when I got this one, and its just a medium level camera.. Kodak 7 Megapixel with 10x optical zoom and a 2Gig memory card.... it was even reduced on sale so I did the "impluse buy" thing.

Theres more images in the folders... I will paste them up and add to them over the next few weeks. The system is an older server that we retired from the rest of the systems..and now is just a web area for collecting "interesting stuff".

This is a sunset taken yesterday, with all the smoke from the fires in Northern California.

Are you near California or has the smoke/soot travelled quite a distance.
I remember a few years ago there were some big bush fires in Australia and New Zealand is off the western coast in the direction of the winds and had the biggest reddest sunsets for weeks afterwards, plus some of the soot and dust landed in the streets and on parked cars.

I like the light levels in your image. the gradual diffusion across the page makes it look good.

In fact all you folk here have good images, they have life and feeling to them. keep up the good work.

Yes, I am in Klamath Falls, Oregon, about 35 miles from the state line, and the smoke is blowing up here on a regular basis.
BTW the camera that I use is also a Kodak. It is the DX6490 with 10x zoom plus digital zoom that I don't use as it makes the photos too grainy.
It has been nearly 2 months of this now. I am ready for it to quit. (the smoke that is)

Good image.
Do you folk often resort to manual settings for some photos?
I have been playing around with night sky shots lately and find there is no way that auto will ever capture the stars, I must use manual.
