I want to thank the unknown 2 or 3 other users who completed the same WUs as I, allowing me to get a few credits. That is probably good science. If I was a scientist in my white coat earning scientist minimum wage I would be happy as a clam.
I am not a scientist, I am a volunteer in an experiment.
I do not care about credits. I am not rich enough to buy the cool hardware needed to be among the crunching gods.
On the other hand, I AM insecure enough to think just a tiny, token stroke of my ego in thanks is not out of the question.
Berkely has a reputation and they are living up to it. The individual means nothing and can be sacrificed for the "common good" as defined by by the sacrificers.
I may be a little out of line, but it failed with Hitler and Stalin, etc., (add your own dictator here).
Ok, thanks for your time, that rant made me feel better, replies are not required.

Whew!

Dave,

The good news with BOINC, you can vote with your feet. I have not checked this morning, but LHC@Home is another BOINC Project along with cp.net; neither of which are controlled by UCB.

One of the many benefits with BOINC is that you do not have to put up with anything you don't want to put up with.

Thanks dave for crunching a work unit.
I will also thank you in advance for the next 1000
That should keep you crunching for a while.
Give me a call when you've finished them and I will thank you some more

LOL, thank you for thanking me.
I have over 6600 hours (on mostly a 486) doing seti classic.
I do not mind doing good science, but Berkely has yet to show me that I AM doing good science. What we get from Berkely is silence and buggy software that is supposedly "Out of beta"
As for voting with my feet, is there another Seti project out there? I will gladly try it.
I am doing WUs 24/7, I will continue to do so till my pc or I die, maybe longer if I die first.
I used the wrong words in saying I wanted my ego stroked. I am a little stronger than that. I want Berkely to know that this would not be possible without us. They seem to think of us as disposable resources to use at will. What can you expect from a place that elected Mayor Moonbeam, after knowing what he did to California.

Sorry about the second rant, be good all, keep crunching, the data may be useful after all, no one knows, but without us, there would be no data at all.

Not another SETI, but climate prediction, protien folding of one sort and and supercolider research

This is correct. THey do need us... but not only is UCB doing the work on SETI@Home, but the heavy lifting for BOINC and that is a tough road in anyone's book ... they could do better, but no matter what they do it generates criticism.

We don't have status ... they gave us status, but it is not perfect ... your status sucks you guys are ... deleted ....

we don't get credit ... credit flows ... why isn't my credit higher ....

etc. etc. etc .
