I will admit that some of the recent events here has taken away from the fun and if people don't stop their childish behavior I WILL be leaving this project for others. I am going to give it until the end of next week, and if things aren't any better I'm gone to other projects and other forums. This is just my view of things.

John (aka Mr. Majestic)

Actually.... now as I've researched some of the other projects I just may leave even sooner.

http://www.MalariaControl.Net is a good one!

Live long and BOINC!

Thanks! Like I said in my thread in the cafe.... I get in these moods every now and then!

And Maj.....I think you will find most other project's forums a bit boring compared to Seti's. Current difficulties aside, this project's forums have such a large group of active posters who provide humor, friendly chat, and technical help which I have never seen at such a level when I was on other projects.

I've already found that... LOL. Another reason I'm a SETIholic. People like you, Beets, and a bunch of other people (I don't fell like typing a list) make this a fun place. See, I already can't leave ;)

OK. I have read this thread and the prior one on the subject.

This is my last post about Admin's action:

As far as I am concerned, this is over. Any of you who want to continue discussing it . . . be my guest, but it doesn't appear that anything will change. The decisions by Admin will stand, the animosities between some (but by no means all) posters will continue to smolder. I will, when I have time, participate in these boards, but not this thread/subject or the mud-slinging it has generated.

Could the current breach of security in the communication between forum moderators in any way allow compromise of private member communications between one another? Assuming of course the private communication was not submitted for moderators scrutiny.

I just wonder how open this all is once one is "inside".

Thanks for any clarification.

UncleVom,

To answer your question: As far as I have been advised PMs are private. Please reread the original post by our leader.

Thanks uli,

I did read the original post, but since the insecurity seems to ongoing and not tracked down yet I was a little worried, but I'm much better now. ;-)

I get a little paranoid about such stuff and once in a while I've been proven right to be so.

My apologies for initiating a new thread but I thought this didn't really relate to "Termination of User Contracts II" except indirectly and might get buried in the bickering, but I suppose it's not really "Politics" either.

I can see that my little exercise in free speech rapidly degenerated into personal attacks. The former thread on this topic, with specific instructions for "light moderation", has been locked. I have not yet decided whether or not to hide it.

I have opened a new thread for you to continue your discussions, if you wish. The normal rules of moderation apply to this thread. If you are a meanie-weenie, your posts will hidden!

Wilma

Wilma, if you hide the threads you are just showing how "undemocratic" this place is. If a rule says "no-cursing" then ok, edit it or whatever. I am losing my faith in this project. Even though I've only started to post on this board, I started crunching for this project 8 1/2 years ago. I now feel that if we ever did discover a real signal from an ET we, the project users, will never know. The whole integrety of the project and team has been damaged. And I feel that if these threads are "hidden" then what else will be hidden from us of already has been? People come to these boards to post their opinions and are entitled to do so. And if someone doesn't like or respect someone elses opinion and are annoyed by it, then they should quit posting for fear of hearing something they might'nt like.

I tend to think many people don't understand the difference between 'rights' and 'privileges'. Anyone has rights within limits, sure, however IMO this forum, and any individual's ability to post here, are a privilege and so can be taken away if it is abused.

Which is what I said in my post. The privilages are controlled by the rules. But a poster still has the right to express himself in a way accepted by the "rules".

First thought:

"Oh no, not again."

nobody should leave this project because what happened in a message boards,
the thing is find et, all the other matters are merely trivia.

I agree and also for Pappa's follow-on comments.

Enough drama for the Drama Queens.

Such is my one comment.

Happy crunchin',

No argument from me there, assuming the poster in question hasn't lost the privileges already. I even think rules can be flexible depending on circumstance and context (Thank goodness! we all make mistakes). But just how flexible do you be?... and when is a firm hand the best? Sometimes it has to be, for the good of the community, that rules are enforced to the fullest, and there are those that will test them beyond those limits in the future. On most programming forums I visit, bans are permanent and include IP bans. The rules here are simple and clear, and for most of us I think we do pretty well to respect them. Let's stop pushing the rules beyond design limits, and give it a go.
