I think we've learnt more than enough from this particular past. We ourselves are the problem if we're burning through the moderators...Respectfully,

Perhaps everyone involved, however remotely, should have had their contracts terminated.

Then the rest of us would not have to see this argument going on and on and on and on and on.

What, you feel that you must read every single post in every single thread in every single forum here?

Perhaps people like you, who cannot resist commenting, should have had their contracts terminated. How about that idea?

If you open a thread and dislike the contents, don't read it. How hard is that for some of you?
Cordially,
Rush

My second comment...

... not have to see this argument going on and on and on and on and on.

We should all move onto better things, better discussions, and for a better future. Both on these forums and everywhere else.

I think we've learnt more than enough from this particular past. We ourselves are the problem if we're burning through the moderators...

Part of being "adult" is being able to move usefully forwards, whether that includes making amends, learning, or even just "turning the other cheek".

Sorry, this continuing cycle of regurgitation long ago was squirming badly.

Please take a holiday and return refreshed and enlightened?

Respectfully,
Martin

I disagree.
If you get a slap you can´t laugh.
Its just that simple.
If both parts would play nice and fair there wouldn´t be a problem.
But both sides has over reacted.
Its the same in a marriage never is only one part guilty.
You need allways two.
But the other part was untouched and thats not fair.
Sorry.

With each crime and every kindness we birth our future.

OT-ish...
I disagree.
If you get a slap you can´t laugh. ...

You are welcome to disagree.

If you can detach yourself enough that you can laugh at the situation, then that is far better than not laughing.

But the other part was untouched and thats not fair.
Sorry.

There is much that can be considered "unfair". Especially so in games and in business and in politics. The greatest "unfairness" that comes to my mind at the moment is the Chinese continued eradication of all Tibetan culture. The Chinese appear to be uncouth, uncultured, warlike, and infinitely arrogant in their power. The Tibetans remain faithful to their centuries of peace despite suffering a continuing ruthless demise. We can hope that (and take action so that) the Tibetans get the same sort of attention that Ghandi achieved in his ultimately successful peaceful protests despite painful brutality at the time.

Perhaps the greatest power is to be able to laugh in the face of even your worse enemy or adversity...

Regards,
Martin

You are right, I came to my senses, I just self-moderated one of my posts. It wasn't worth the effort.

Thanks.

Excellent idea!

And to continue your analogy you also know that there is a continuing fightback against the Chinese over Tibet. Unfairness is a given, but that doesn't mean that people just accept that and not try and re-adjust the unfair situation.

If my understanding of the text and subsequent events is correct, would you say it would be fair to say that people were not given "an opportunity to step forward and lay out their position" [edit]unless they thought they received the PM in error[/edit]?

I believe that people were asked not to put forward their case at the time of the pm but would be given an opportunity at a later date. Whether this has subsequently taken place I do not know.

Which may account for at least some of the ill feeling on the part of those who have had their contracts terminated. Being told that they would be given a chance to put forth their case later and finding a month or so later that they no longer have that chance, might appear to some as unfair.

I understand that the admins are extremely busy people, and it may have been an oversight on their part not to send an additional communication to those that did not get the PM in error. But to say that you will collect information later and then act without collecting said information may mean the act was unwarranted.

Further, to those that say people that may have been aware of the leak, should have communicated this information to SETI, one small point. It may be the case that some in this group objected to the leak and how the data was being used and voiced their objections in that group, but to have informed SETI directly would in itself have been a leak. Sure, they'd be leaking on the leakers, but they would, in effect, be taking an action that has been condemned by many here in a different context. Far better, surely, to try to persaude the person leaking to cease that activity come forward of their own volition?
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

Enough said! Thread II has gone the way of Thread I. Public discussion is now closed on this topic. Those compelled to continue discussing this issue will now have to use the private message system. Anyone who feels he or she is receiving unwanted private messages should use the "ignore" feature.
