Okay... I'll admit procrastination in updating my app_info.xml files to process the AP WUs... I was waiting for the official "An app_info.xml file will be made available here" section of the Astropulse FAQ to be created.

Okay... I'll admit procrastination in updating my app_info.xml files to process the AP WUs... I was waiting for the official "An app_info.xml file will be made available here" section of the Astropulse FAQ to be created. Hmmm......I thought that it was indicated that AP work would not be issued to a host computer if you were already running optimized unless the proper files to process it were in place....you were running an opti app on that rig, no? Maybe this is another scheduler bug that Eric needs to be aware of. ____________ ****** "Ask not, what your kitty can do for you. Ask what you can do for your kitty." From the Astropulse FAQ... Can I choose to run only Astropulse? Can I choose not to run Astropulse? At present you must run both Astropulse and the original SETI@home. However, we plan to implement the ability to choose in the near future. ================ Lesson here... if you have the hardware, you will be issued AP work!!! Nevermind that you don't have the AP client. [edit] Only running optimized on all my rigs. If I wasn't running optimized, the AP client would have installed automatically. [/edit]

But I think that only applies if you are running the stock science app, no? Per Joe Segur from a post he made in the Astropulse Rumors thread..... "You personally will not be affected since you're running optimized apps. You'd have to make an extra effort to get AP work if you wanted (modify the app_info.xml and download the astropulse files)." Were you running a opti app on that rig when it was issued the AP WU? ____________ ****** "Ask not, what your kitty can do for you. Ask what you can do for your kitty." It should not download the work if you do not have the files in place for it though. If you are using an optimised application then you will need to replace or modify the app_info.xml file. I take that statement to mean that the servers will not issue you AP work until you have the app_info file updated. ____________

This one should work just fine on the E4500 as you run the same version as I do.

Nope. I'm running optimzed apps on all my rigs...and I received WUs on a MAC and on a Linux box...and I didn't change the app_info.xml file...

It should not download the work if you do not have the files in place for it though. Yes, I understood that statement the same way, my host has been running nothing but optimized AK_V8 with app_info.xml since mid March... this is Lovey, the first Windows host to be running AK_V8, the box I first deployed to, my first test host for the ported client. If I read the above statement a slightly different way... "If you are using an optimized application, then you need to replace or modify the app_info.xml file, you will get AP WUs". @Arkayn : Thanks, I've already modified my app_info.xml files, but the damage has been done with the first AP WU. @UL1 : I saw your earlier message about receiving one of the AP WUs on your MAC, I saw the same messages in my Win Vista log file. [edit] @msattler : Here's one of your AP WUs... Have you changed your app_info.xml to understand how to crunch ? [/edit] With 30 day deadlines... it's going to be a long wait to grant credit on the ghosts... fortunately my wingman on this WU is also running WIN AK_V8 and probably hasn't modified his app_info.xml either.

I think Mark actually got it right. (modify the app_info.xml and download the astropulse files) The files to download are in Richards post Beta - AP release soon - 34336

I got an astropulse unit here a couple hours ago and I'm running the stock app. Looks like my wingman got it with the optimised client. Don't know who this is as its listed As.

I think Mark actually got it right. Yes, I understand... Since I didn't update my app_info.xml file or install the AP client files, is it expected that I would be assigned ghost AP workunits?

I got an astropulse unit here a couple hours ago and I'm running the stock app. Looks like my wingman got it with the optimised client. Don't know who this is as its listed As. As you have found out if you are using the stock app then downloading of apps is automatic. But if you are using optimised apps and an app_info file, the owner is making themselves responsible to ensure all the apps and associated files listed in the app_info file are on their computers and in the right place. Modifying the app_info file is not enough. The app_info file is used to inform the download server that the computer is capable of doing that type of work and you have suitable apps in place. If the apps haven't been installed then the data is downloaded but with no app in place.... CRASH.

I think Mark actually got it right. No, you shouldn't have issued AP units, that is a server problem. Must check my computers to see if I have been allocated AP here. Don't want them here yet have enough of them at Beta. That could be a long job and I have been told to paint doors today or else, she who must be obeyed has spoken.

I think Mark actually got it right. Yes... The servers are sending out ghosts... and it's going to be a month 'til they are re-issued. Does anybody know how to edit my client_state.xml file to force a resend of the missing file? I am not afraid of the consequences. [edit] @WinterKnight : here's one [/edit]

Modifying the app_info file is not enough. The app_info file is used to inform the download server that the computer is capable of doing that type of work and you have suitable apps in place. If the apps haven't been installed then the data is downloaded but with no app in place.... CRASH. Well since Seti, who was once my primary account is now a backup account in case einstein is down I'll abort the worklunit and let both my wingman and I off the hook. I really don't want to waste a week of my computer time doing a workunit that may not even get credit until sometime in Oct. Best that he and I are both out and maybe it can be assigned to others that are prepared for this eventuality. It's really a shame as the austropulse work seems to tie in with einstein's type of scientific work and I think it would be reall nice to have that here and possibly a way to help obtain the desperate needed funging Matt and the guys need to keep thing running. ____________

After reading this thread I thought i'd better run through and update all of my crunchers. I ran across this in one of the logs:

snipped...... Thanks for looking, for me that proves that there is a server problem. Because I have definitely not tried to get AP here. I have 4 plus 13% from beta.

If you are using anonymous platform, how does the server know if you have all applications installed on you computer? Does it have any other way but to send AstroPulse WU's? Then BOINC could report back to server that applications were not found and mark the WU's in question rejected or something.
