Message 794365 - Posted: 7 Aug 2008, 23:31:41 UTC - in response to Message 794364.

40 hours on Q6600. The result is valid and awaiting for my wingmate somewher in the future - he is running some kind of laptop as his stats shows T2050 at 1.6 GHz. The good thing is that he is running stock apps and will probably return a valid result too.

Are you impying that those of us on Opt Apps don't return valid results? I take that as a personal slight ;( :P

I just noticed this thread, been reading since I joined a few days ago. Found and installed the optimized app, modified the app_info for AP work, manually downloaded the files, and currently have 1 running at this time. on a P4 2.8GHz w/HT, 12 hours in, its done 7.76% as I write this, with time to complete at 55 hours. Will see how it goes.

I want to do astropulse. I prevented getting new wu's until i was down to 2 seti wu's. Then i accepted new wu's and all what was downloaded were for seti. My system is AMD Duo Core 2.2GHZ cpu, 2GB of ram. Why don't i get any wu's for astropulse?

I didn't mean something offensive, Fred, I am sorry. Don't take it this way, please. Me using an optimised app too. But recently I read a lot about a ghost WUs with optimised apps and outdated app_info - that is what I meant. I just wanted to say that I hope I'll get that AP WU credited before long. :)

Mine both say 10:57:58(HH:MM:SS), If I had the water cooling I need I would think that time would go down as I could then crank up the speed some around here on My Q9300. :)

Back in June, the Frozen Penny did some Beta work with AP4.33, took a little over 20 hours IIRC.
                                                                Joe

Ok Josef, BoincView is saying about 15:29:14 for My 1st AstroPulse WU, As I have Boinc running @ 85% for heat issues, It would be somewhat less If I were able to be at 3.52GHz and/or at 100% instead of 3.29GHz and 85%. I have about 12:21:29 left to do on that AP WU(ap_04ap08ac_B5_P1_00032_20080806_16085.wu_1).

Bummer! Was thinking, as I have been churning through Seti units at around 3 hours lately that even if those AP units took 30 times longer I'd still be way under the 30 day window. Alas, will keep running the old ones til a new Mac shows up.

Sedge

The G5 will get the AP units as it is faster that the 1.6 GHz they set for the lower limit.

Ok, that is good to know. I just got Alex's v.8 up and running, now have to install your AP app, right? I was having trouble before...I could not figure out where I had to change the Owner info, cause when I do Get Info, the only thing is the 'Sharing and Permissions'. Changing those to Read/Write - is that what I have to do? Just the two files, the app.info and the actual app itself, correct?

Sorry, not so good at this stuff, just been running the stock, then opt apps all these years.

Instead of trying to change it with get info, just reinstall the boinc manager and that will fix the permissions.

I know there is an answer in here somewhere on these boards, however working 12 hours a day 7 days a week for now leaves little time to browse the boards, please forgive the question if so. I have downloaded several AP WU's on all my rigs both Intel and AMD, I see some are running now. I have not added to or
modified my SETI 5.45 with the AK-8 opt. app. to run these AP WU's. How are the WU's able to crunch without doing anything? Are the AP WU's going to error out or was the program self updated? Thank you in advance.

This rig hostid=4256735 is no longer running "optimized" since a "detatch" at 7 Aug 2008 23:10:16 UTC. This host is now running stock client, DLing and running AP WUs without a problem.

TY JD I will fix that when I get home tonight, but if I fix it to run the AK-8 will it still run AP's and ... yes I did a detatch on all my rigs last few days, cleaning up ghost WU's, why would doing a detach/reattach make the AK-8 not work? I might have the same problem on all my rigs then. Anyway will the AK-8 stop AP's from crunching? anyone lol...later... and TY...back to the flight line.

A detach will remove the science app from the project directory and any app_info.xml file, too. I guess the logic is, since you're detaching, you don't need that stuff any more.
If you're going to put the optimized app back in place and want to keep working on the AP unit, you should put an app_info.xml in place that contains the AP stuff in it. That should work, but maybe you're also the test case?

And re-download all the executables for both AP and AK_V8.

Ooooh, this is going to be fun. Not. Boring, more like.

My daily driver 2.0 GHz P4 Northwood (it only runs at ~90% efficiency because of all the other stuff that's open - like lots of project message boards, email and BoincView) has now started its first AP.

It's now running 50-50 between Einstein S5R4 (about 35 hours) and AP (about 150 hours, but too early to be sure).

Anyone like to swap for some shorties?

Sure...I keep getting shorties with each request for new work, and I have 3 AP WUs that get suspended when BOINC goes into EDF. I just want to finish at least 1 of them. I have 3 that keep swapping out for shorties, but are currently running along with 1 enhanced.

My 1 AP unit is now at 15%, 24 hours down, up to 57h 48m to complete. So its doing about 7% every 12 hours.

You may need to review your cache size, and reduce it to something smaller which doesn't make BOINC panic over the 7-day deadline for the shorties.

If you keep pushing MB work ahead of the AP, and you're running an optimised application (as you are), your RDCF is going to stay pretty close to 0.1

AP estimates are designed to be accurate with an RDCF of about 0.4 on a Quad, so BOINC will think (wrongly) that AP will take only a quarter of the time it really needs. It might end up not putting AP into EDF itself soon enough.

Figured out how to test AP builds standalone yet JD?
