Hi all,

finally I have succeeded in installing Fedora 9 ppc on my PS3, and installed BOINC with yum ... but all I get from the projects in which I am participating is that they don't have a application for my platform "powerpc-pc-linux-gnu" :(

Can someone help me to get a platform "powerpc-pc-linux-gnu" application for this project ?
I know that such a application would only use the PPC core (with Altivec) of my CELL CPU, but better 1 of 7 cores than 0 of 7 !

If someone can tell me how to compile a platform "powerpc-pc-linux-gnu" for my PS3 myself, I could try this too, as in the long term I intend to optimize the sources for my PS3.

Gaurav has build a PS3 application which uses the SPEs for the fftw tasks of the SETI application :
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=47395&nowrap=true#764065

It uses the SPEs not for all computations, so the performance is better as if PPE only would used.

The project is not sending out automaticly powerpc Linux applications. It must be installed manualy.
For the platform error, please check, if the files app_info.xml and setiathome-5... are installed right in the subdirectory where the BOINC client is installed (projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/). After you have installed the app_info.xml, you need to stop the BOINC client and start it with "./boinc_client -update_prefs http://setiathome.berkeley.edu"

HOW do I install a PPC application MANUALLY ?

I know of Gauravs application, but I don't know where to get his applications, and I don't know how to install it manually anyway ...

Gaurav has build a binary for the new Astropulse applicaiton, which is avialable on my SETI download site.
You need also a BOINC client, which is also available here on my BOINC download site.

The BOINC, Astropulse and SETI packages include a install howto in opt/boinc/doc/install.boinc and install.astropulse where are all steps are described in detail.

The installation steps, if you are still attached to the SETI project :
- stop the BOINC client
- cd to the $BOINC_DIR/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/ directory. -> Change $BOINCDIR in the the directory where your BOINC client executabable (boinc_client) is located.
- Copy the Astropulse package into this directory
- unpack the Astropulse package : tar -xvzf astropulse-4.35_10.powerpc64-ps3-linux.tar.gz
- Select the AP application only : "cp app_info.xml_AP app_info.xml"
- cd to $BOINC_DIR
- restart the BOINC client with "./boinc_client --update_prefs http://setiathome.berkerley.edu

This project was especially developed for the PS3: http://www.ps3grid.net/. It uses 6 cores. See the FAQ section of the forum for how to set it up.

I have made a mistake by the package bundeling of the PS3 application. The filename of the PS3 SPE appplication is astropulse-4.35_10.powerpc64-ps3-linux.tar.gz and not astropulse-4.35_10.powerpc-unknown-linux.tar.gz.
I am very sorry !
Please download the and install the PS3 SPE binary binary.

Many thanks for your help, I will try it out as soon as I have time for my PS3 again.

I know of this project, but like Folding@home in the game OS of my PS3, this is one of the projects where I am not interested in participating ... please check my profile to see in which projects I want to participate ( except this project of course ).
