I too just received the above "error" message ("Seti@hom Enhanced is not available for your type of computer") when my MacBook Pro attempted to download some SETI work to do.

Got the same message also. MobileMe has also thrown a wobbly and does not recognize my password in Mail, I don't say this is connected.

I'm getting the same message. Sure would be nice if Seti@home had a contact address...what's up with that??

Message 785346 - Posted: 22 Jul 2008, 9:08:04 UTC

I skyped with thanar, a seti@home help volunteer. Here’s the chat:

me: Greetings thanar...I am wondering what's up with this:

Tue Jul 22 03:21:56 2008|SETI@home|Message from server: SETI@home Enhanced is not available for your type of computer.

thanar(ious): what's your CPU?

me: macbook pro 2.6 ghz dual core intel

thanar(ious): did you upgrade from a PPC macintosh by any chance?

me: yes, about 7 months ago..it's worked fine until last night...on the q&a setti message board a bunch offolks are reporting the same thing...

thanar(ious): did you carry your SETI installation from your PPC computer, or did you do a fresh install of BOINC in your Intel Mac?

me: carried over.

thanar(ious): your mac is using Rosetta for seti calculations, which is VERY wrong. You are loosing lots of processing power. You should completelly erase your BOINC folder and do a fresh BOINC install.

So I am about to do that...you all may want to try it too.

Interesting, although I for one have only been on Intel.

Hi - I'm gratified to know y'all are having the same problem, but sorry to hear it at the same time...

Both my machines were fresh installs of BOINC...

Something must have suddenly changed at the berkeley end.

I'm still on a dual 2GHz PPC, so that answer wouldn't apply here, either.

Well, it's either a glitch or they don't want us anymore.

I started receiving this message as well on my PPC Mac (Dual 1.25GHZ G4). I'm running BOINC 5.10.20 on OSX 10.4.11, I havent done any updates to the system recently. And my Intel Mac is not getting this message. I also think this is a change on the Berkeley end.

I haven't got this confirmed from Eric Korpela yet, but I believe most of these issues are stemming from the fact that they are preparing to integrate the new SETI Astropulse workunits here with the SETI Enhanced MultiBeam workunits, and I think they might have temporarily "broke" something while messing with the servers. I think an official announcement might come after today's routine outage. We'll see.

Thanks for the info. It's nice to be kept in the loop at least a little.

I'm happy I found these posts. My computer is a 1.5 month old Mac Pro 8 core with a fresh install of BOINC. It's only asking to do some work!
