I am just curious as to how people feel here about people they disagree with. Myself..no matter how annoyed I get about people, I don't dislike them because of their political views. It doesn't matter who they are and how much I detest their opinions. I separate their opinions from the person, and judge them on how they treat me as a person..not on what they think about politics or religion. How do other people feel about those that post here? Just wondering if I am alone on this..or if people aren't aware even that I think like this. [please keep this topic civil..do not use it as an excuse to slag people off] Reality Internet Personality |

I hate them! Just kidding. It makes life a little more "vivid" for me when I get to explore the wild and woolly world of people. Sometimes I think I may be able to learn or help someone learn, but find most are set in granite. I was never political, even in college. The smaller the world gets, however, the more is apparent, and it hurts. People seem to have their operating systems EPROM'd, with an emphasis on READ ONLY MEMORY. Embracing this fact is tough but helpful. (vivid: See "Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates", by Tom Robbins. (Book)) ;) . I afraid I have been avoiding the politics pages because of their effect on my blood pressure. Unfortunately as I get older I have not become more right wing, rather the reverse as I learn more and more about some peoples' greed, selfishness and aggression. Since the extreme of the left wing is every inch as ghastly as the right, perhaps I just become more and more Liberal as time goes by. Far too many (or maybe just 3 or 4) of the regular correspondents fit those categories all too easily. Some of them should read, mark, learn and inwardly digest the 10 commandments, not as religious but rather moral rules and would be all the better and more human for it. My fuse has almost always been too short for my own good. I have a tendency to speak my mind and call a spade a ******* shovel much too quickly. Trying to convert some of the bigots that infect these pages is a far worse task than that faced by Sysyphus and I should not attempt it. I shall try never to slag people off but their views are, indeed, another matter altogether. Rubbish views remain rubbish no matter what totalitarian stone they crawl out from. I know full well that Esme has friends amongst those whose views I detest but I have to confess that I should find accepting some of them as such more than difficult. There, I am just a good, old-fashioned Liberal bigot. |

'Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.' ~ Jesus That is rather a clever indirect approach for trying to instill some learning and good morals. (Think it through.) I just wonder whether that piece is something copied from earlier thoughtful scriptures of the day, whether it was indeed thoughtfully included to make a moralizing story, or whether it's just an apt comment that has greater meaning than the author(s) intended/believed. There is quite a leap to be able to discuss and argue ideas rather than to blindly argue at someone. Then again, many people never get past the evolutionary stage of just blindly spouting their own rubbish without any thought for discussion or that there might be alternative ideas. Note that it is the active posters that shape these forums. There must be some kind of rapport for people to linger for so long. And enough of my pontificating! It's not the posters here than annoy me so much (although Rush makes me want to put my foot through the monitor at times)..it's those that can't tell the difference between making a valid point made between friends and flame/hate. Those are the ones that do my nut in. It would be nice to see some of the right wingers post here..or are they the ones that do hate people just because of their opinions? And enough of my pontificating! Pontificate all you like... I do it all the time... I state my case and quietly walk away, no point in arguing about it... ;) (Right or wrong, I will always be wrong in the eyes of those who outnumber me and outrank me.) Since Rush and I seem to get along (agree on some things and disagree on others) on the forums during the day, can we get in arguments over a pint or two? Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |
