Since a few days I cannot upload or download anything with boinc/setiathome anymore.
I'm using boinc client version 5.10.45 for i586-pc- linux-gnu and setiathome_enhanced version 5.27 on Mandriva Linux Cooker.
As Cooker changes daily I tried to find any programme or library change that might have been the cause, but going back to the older version before I stopped being able to connect made no difference, so that does not appear to be the cause.
I reinstalled boinc from scratch: no difference.
When I try to upload any of the finished tasks I get above error; when I tried to update, I get: "[error] Couldn't start download of scheduler list: http error"
It would appear that the above error has to do something with he way curl connects with the aide of the file "ca-bundle.crt" in my BOINC directory, but there appears nothing wrong with that. I also tried with the same file from /etc/pki/certs, but that made no difference either.
Now I am at loss what to try and would appreciate any assistance to connect again. Thanks i.a.

Looks like a library problem. Which BOINC client do you use ?
Have you tried the offical BOINC client from boinc.berkeley.edu ? - So far I know is it liked staticly, so you should not have this library problems...

I have the official BOINC client from boinc.berkeley.edu: latest version 5.10.45 for i586-pc-linux-gnu, so how can I fix it?

Could you please post the messages from a connection attempt when this errror happens.
Also the output from "ldd boinc_client" would be helpfull.
Do you use an proxy or firewall ?

I don't have boinc_client. I suppose you mean boincmgr? That gives:

Could you please post the messages from a connection attempt when this errror happens.
See above in my first post:
[error] Couldn't create curlEasy handle
and

I would see the messages in the context what exactly happening !
Do you have the boinc or boincclient binary in your BOINc directory. - I need the ldd from the BOINC client binary.

One more bit of information: counting backwards I found that the moment my seti connection to the seti server stopped working was during last week's server outage for maintenance on Tuesday evening: early evening I uploaded my last few tasks that I could get through, these same are still "Ready to report".
I dunno if it has any bearing, but chances are.

I'm working on my last task I downloaded before the error appeared and the oldest tasks are nearly overdue.
So I do hope somebody can give me some clues to fix this. Thanks i.a. !

I found the cause of the problem: /etc/nsswitch.conf was not readable to the user. Fixed and working again.
Thanks for your time.
