Let me begin by apologizing if there is a similar post already created, or if I have posted this in the wrong area. This is my first time posting here.

I have been participating in SETI@home off and on for the past 6 or 7 years. I am a mental health counselor by trade and have never had much in the way of physics or astronomy education.

Could someone please recommend a website or reply with a post to help me understand more about the project. For example what are gaussians, spikes, pulses and triplets. Why are they important?

Thanks in advance for helping the non-science minded!
