Elijah and Elisha are talking and suddenly a bright, flying vehicle and a cavalry of bright, flying objects appear and Elijah ascends into the sky by a spinning-flying vehicle. The word translated into horses, 'cuwc', means rapid movement or flight. This cavalry of glowing vehicles is most likely the army spoken of where hosts appears.

This appears to be a description of a circular fleet of objects arranged around a main object described as Yhovah’s pavilion or mobile dwelling. In front of this grouping appear brilliant, flashing lights and glowing objects. Yhovah tumbles out of the sky. Arrow-like objects and bright flashes cause great consternation to David’s enemies.

Whether day or night the people respond to the movements of the vehicle.

The Vehicle Hovers For Months
9: 22 Or whether it were two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, remaining hereon, the children of Israel abode in their tents, and journeyed not: but when it was taken up, they journeyed.
It is made clear that the movement of the people is dependent on the flight of the craft. The word ' upon ', when used in the preceding text, is taken from the word ' al ' which means above or over. This means that the craft is hovering in the air over the tabernacle for as much as a year at a time. When it ascends higher and flies off, they follow it.

Takeoff And Landing
10:11 And it came to pass on the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, that the cloud was taken up from off the tabernacle of the testimony. 12 And the children of Israel took their journeys out of the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud rested in the wilderness of Paran.
A pattern of moving from place to place that goes on for forty years, following the ascending and descending craft.

The two witnesses, after being resurrected, hear a great voice from the sky and ascend into the sky in a cloud.

Thick Clouds

The word 'thick' is taken from 'ab meaning density or an envelope. The word 'cloud' is taken from the word `anan which means thunder-cloud. The density of this object and the fact that it stays in position for long periods shows that it is called a cloud only because it is a large object flying in the sky. Since the only large things flying around in the sky in 1200 BC were, in fact, clouds, this is the name it was given.

BIble was written when and by whom.. Decided by whom, when, as to what "Gospels" to include. I would suggest that you look at "the Council of Trent" and also the stories in the Dead Sea Scrolls, If you want a perspective on where the Bible came from and why. The Scrolls predated Christ by as much as 175 years and had the same stories as the bible except that they spoke of the "Law Giver" rather than the Messiah. I tend to believe a little of the paranoia that these Scrolls found at Cumran were suppressed. These came from the Esthenes (spelling ?) from which John the Baptist was supposedly from that tribe. I am no biblical scholar so a lot of this is uncertain.

I wouldn't get too upset about this recent ID thrust. When I taught Physics I pointed out the delicate balance that occurs to allow life and discussed the Anthropic principle. The designer could be "Nature", an intelligent super race millions of years more advanced than we are now or randomness and luck that allowed us to even exist to ponder the question.

Same for evolution. Evolution is a well-documented fact . if you want to believe that it was set up by Nature, Nothing, A Diety, A supreme race that seeded our planet : then all or any of that doesn't mean that evolution doesn't exist and that the "Truth" is really in the Bible.

There is no reason to have the controversy. Evolution and Intelligent Design need not exclude a Deity if that's what you want to believe. This can be discussed in school without stating that it was absolutely Allah who set all of this up. One man's god might be an Old man on a cloud, Nature, Anthropicism, Luck, Inevitability, or Super Designer from the planet Krypton. Some are just more silly than the others.

We need less excitement and more calm discussion--shouldn't be as polarizing unless someone tries to go back to the monkey trial bruehaha of the past by dictating that the bible be taught as the true story of creation..

I went to Catholic School and was an altar boy for years. Never questioned a single thing until I was "30 something". Even then I didn't REALLY question. I just started seeing how the church and it's teachings had been used to control people throughout history. I got a little bitter about that.

Always enjoyed science and science fiction. Had my spree of science only thinking. Thought that religions were bad with bad intentions.

Started looking into older texts than the Bible. Found many stories of the Bible are actually much older. The further I went back the more I found truth. Pre-spin, if you will.

I now believe there is truth in ancient texts and science. Directed Panspermia, creation, modification of our species, evolution? Who is qualified to say?

No one.

That's why it's important to all of us to be allowed to continue studying and digging freely for the truth. I believe it is tough for people who are raised in a set thinking pattern. It takes half a lifetime or more in some cases to get past dogmas so real research can begin for each individual.

Not sure if I'm reading this right, the question is better posed to ID as evolution is a process that acts on what's available, it does not control stellar events (and it's likely that the dinosaurs were wiped out by a collision with a meteor). The "Designer", however, probably would have such control. Were the dinos an experiment gone bad? Did the designer get bored? ID leads inevitably to such questions, evolution does not. These questions, and several others cannot be answered by scientific enquiry (hypothesis, experiments and evidence, theory, etc), so what are they doing in a science class? ID in biology is as valid today as TARDIS engine design is in a physics class.

So, basically what I am seeing here is an utter refusal to allow children to be shown different views of the same coin.

You are all saying that " THIS is how it is...this is how you have to think ", rather than let the high schoolers decide for themselves if they think that ID is as ridiculous as you all do. By the time they reach High School, most of those " impressionable " children are not as impressionable as you may think.

Sorry folks, but I believe that is a BIG problem with our schools. One of the big reasons that many kids ( including myself when I was a kid ) get bad grades or outright fail some subjects is that the kid may come up with the correct answer, but if they haven't come up with that answer in exactly the way the books say they should have, then they are told that their answer was incorrect. There is no room in the schools for free thinking as far as problem solving, and that is a severe detriment. There are ( I would be willing to bet ) many, many intelligent children that are not doing all that well in school because they don't go about solving problems the way they are " supposed " to.

I will qualify this by saying that I think there should be a certain point ( such as when they start high school ) when ID is actually introduced as an alternative idea. Before that point, a child's ability to think critically may not be developed enough to think it through well enough to reach an informed decision on whether to believe it or not.
