Peru and Chile Sign Treaty of Ancón
(1883)

The Treaty of Ancón ended Peru's involvement in the late 19th-century War of the Pacific, fought between Chile and the joint forces of Bolivia and Peru. Victorious, Chile annexed the former Peruvian province of Tarapacá and gained substantial mineral-rich territories, leaving Bolivia without access to the sea. The loss of the war remains an emotional issue for many Bolivians who attribute their country's problems to its landlocked condition.

Treaty of Madrid Signed (1795)
The Treaty of Madrid was an early agreement between the fledgling nation of the United States and colonial Spain. The treaty defined the boundaries between the US and Spanish colonies to the south and west, and it secured the US rights to navigate the Mississippi River, which was a critical waterway for trade. The signatories also agreed not to incite native tribes to warfare

(1984)

Using just $1,000, college student Michael Dell founded computer company PC's Limited in 1984. He eventually dropped out of school to focus on his fledgling business full-time, a gamble that paid off when his company grossed more than $73 million in its first year. By marketing custom-assembled machines for sale directly to consumers, the company, now called Dell, Inc.

Susan B. Anthony Breaks US Law to Vote (1872)
Anthony was an important figure in the 19th-century US women's suffrage movement. In 1869, Anthony, together with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, founded an association dedicated to securing voting rights for women. Three years later, she defied US law and voted in the presidential election, asserting that the 14th Amendment entitled her to do so. She was arrested and fined, but her actions drew great attention to the women's rights movement.

Napoleon Bonaparte Leads the Coup of 18 Brumaire
(1799)

During this coup, Bonaparte overthrew the weakened government of the Directory, replaced it with the Consulate, and secured his own election as First Consul. This marked a major turning point in the history of the French Revolution, replacing earlier experiments in democracy with a more stable but autocratic rule. The coup was instigated by Emmanuel Sieyès as an attempt to prevent a return to Jacobinism, but Bonaparte soon seized control.

Thank you for the post Dirk, there can never be enough reminders.

Yeah, The History channel had an hour long show on the USS ARIZONA(BB-39) and loosely about Pearl Harbor, It seems the Battleship with 18" of Deck Armor couldn't withstand 4 modified 14" Battleship shells(modified to be dropped as Armor piercing Bombs), The ships AA Guns couldn't hit or even reach the 10 Bombers that were at 10,000' altitude as that was beyond the range of those guns back then, 900 Sailors are entombed there along with a few survivors ashes on special request(One would need to have been aboard the Arizona as a part of the crew I heard to have that done), Pretty informative show called "Hero Ships", No Torpedoes could strike Her as She was between Ford Island and a Repair Ship and was scheduled to leave Pearl for Bremerton WA on the 7th(Should have left on the 6th, But that's hindsight and It's always 20/20, The future is Myopic of course), To top It off the Repair ship also blocked not only the Torpedoes but the field of Fire of the AA Guns that could be fired and manned(Not enough bodies), Also the ammo was largely locked down as they were afraid of sabotage.

Being prepared for War is the right thing to do, Peaceniks think that's Warmongering, They are dead wrong.

Melville's Moby-Dick Published in the US (1851)

Inspired by his whaling experiences on the South Seas, Herman Melville penned Moby-Dick, the now famed tale of a deranged whaling captain's obsessive voyage to find and destroy the great white whale to whom he lost his leg. The novel is at once an exciting sea story, a sociological critique of American prejudices, a repository of information about whaling, and a philosophical inquiry into the nature of good and evil

Abraham Lincoln Delivers Gettysburg Address (1863)

The Gettysburg Address, one of the most quoted speeches in US history, was delivered by President Lincoln at the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, four and half months after the famous battle fought there. In approximately three minutes, Lincoln's address redefined the American Civil War as not merely a struggle for the Union, but as "a new birth of freedom" for the US and its people

Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Opens (1964)
The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge connects the boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn in New York City. From the time of its completion until 1981, it was the largest suspension bridge in the world, with a center span of 4,260 feet (1,298 meters). The bridge furnishes a critical link in the local and regional highway system, and it is widely known today as the starting point for the New York City Marathon

Tasmania Sighted by Dutch (1642)

Dutch explorer Abel Tasman was the first European to sight the island of Tasmania. He named it Anthoonij van Diemenslandt after the Governor of the Dutch East Indies. In 1803, Britain took possession of the island and established a penal colony there. The indigenous population numbered about 5,000 at the time of colonization but was subsequently decimated, leaving few survivors

Battle of Montgisard (1177)

At the Battle of Montgisard, the Kingdom of Jerusalem, established by the First Crusade and led by Baldwin IV, defeated the renowned Kurdish military general Saladin. Learning of Saladin's plans to invade from Egypt, Baldwin's forces surprised his army en route and were triumphant despite inferior numbers. The kingdom enjoyed a year of peace before Saladin renewed his attacks, prompting another decade of warfare.

Carter Breaches Entrance to Tutankhamun's Tomb (1922)

When Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon entered the tomb of the Egyptian King Tutankhamun, they were the first people to do so in approximately 3,000 years. The pharaoh's tomb was then the best preserved and most intact ever found in the Valley of the Kings. The discovery received worldwide press coverage and renewed public interest in ancient Egypt, for which Tutankhamun remains a popular icon.

Restoration of Colonial Williamsburg Begins (1926)

The restoration of Colonial Williamsburg, one of the largest historic restorations ever undertaken, was championed by the Reverend Dr. W.A.R. Goodwin and John D. Rockefeller, Jr., who wanted to celebrate the early history of America. Today, Colonial Williamsburg is almost completely restored. It features shops, taverns, and open-air markets in the colonial style, and it has become a popular tourist destination
