I didn't find a way to set local preferences yet. e.g.: Depending on the CPU type, it would be useful to be able to set different values for [resource_share]. Some systems prefer integer and some float arithmetics. Memory might influence [leave_apps_in_memory/] settings Depending on the type of WAN access, different [work_buf_min_days] would be helpful, same for [work_buf_max_days]. On dedicated web servers servers, one would not need to allow remote RPC access. Volker edit: it "stole" my XML tags ..., replaced with [ ] |

I don't see why the preferences has to be web-based now either, as said above each system is different.. BOINC's resource share is only between boinc projects, is there a way to set total CPU usage of ALL of boinc? |

Set it in one place and forget it as all of the machines will get the new settings eventually. > BOINC's resource share is only between boinc projects, is there a way to set > total CPU usage of ALL of boinc? No. It is planned to allow the setting of project application priority. In some cases, it might also be nice to be able to sleep for x milliseconds / second, but this is not implemented (or I believe planned yet). |

Web based settings are very useful if you have a homogenous (sp?) network or do not plan to fine tune stuff. If I don't need the local settings, I leave them away - but it's always nice to have the option to use one specific computer in a different way. We now solved the issue by setting the one computer that needed different settings to "school" so currently I'm happy with it :-) But still - local options would be my wish. Should be fairly easy to implement, just a second optional XML that overrides the values taken from the global XML files. Same XML tags, same structure so the same read procedure could be used, just with a different filename or -handle. |
