Every significant Internet provider around the globe is currently in talks with access and content providers to transform the internet into a television-like medium: no more freedom, you pay for a small commercial package of sites you can visit and you will have to pay for separate subscriptions for every site thats not in the package.

If you want more information please visit: http://www.phear-gaming.net/freeshout/?p=6

People this is no joke, in just 4 short years the internet is going to change big time. It will be more like cable television, having to pay extra for sites your use to be able to view for free.

Please help us spread the word about this and other issues that Freedom Shout will address.

Isnt it time we had our say?: http://freeshout.phear-gaming.net

You can choose not to believe it but you can call any significant ISP and they will confirm this. Did you even watch the video?

In just 4 years this website may be unaccessible.

I'm guessing we'll still be paying our ISP fees to connect... to NOTHING... ;)

(And to think this all started with the automobile... the optional 'floor mat package'.)

Any significant proof other than a conspiracy theorist web video? Any other professionals talking about it?

I am assuming this conspiracy theory is built on what is happening in the US ISP arena and then translating that to the rest of the world.

It is a bit like in Britian where the world of Westminster and London drives what happens in the rest of the country, whether it is relevant to the outside world or not!

Balony is my reaction, until harder proof is given.

That's my reaction as well. I can see some sites trying to get away with this, but I don't see it happening on a permanent basis. I'll just keep my eyes on the news for updates.

. . . from the Los Angeles TIMES

. . . trouble for the ipower people: A worldwide net neutrality conspiracy theory runs into trouble - 8:40 AM, June 11, 2008

The flamboyant online activist group from Belgium, I Power, has been drawing a lot of attention for its recent video (above) proclaiming a worldwide conspiracy that would end the Internet as we know it.

<snip>

i Power posted a new video Sunday saying it had confirmation of the 2012 plan from sources inside two Canadian telecommunications companies, Bell Canada and Telus. But those claims are somewhat flimsy. I Power links to a Telus Web page listing dozens of websites that users can only access on a "pay-per-use" basis. But following the link backward to Telus' wireless web offerings, you find that the company has two Web packages -- one with unlimited web surfing and one where you pay 5 cents every time you visit any site. And obviously, Canada is not part of the United States.

I Power is known for outrageous activities. Earlier this year, the group drew more attention when one of its members, Tania Derveaux, posted a nearly naked picture of herself and offered to "make love with every virgin who defends the Internet" by supporting Net Neutrality.

ps - i saw the video mentioned re: Tania - i shan't post any link based on a rather obvious reason . . .

I read something about a 'pay as you go' type service a while back...

I had 'unlimited service' with my last dial-up ISP, when my usage was more than they expected my service was cut off... It suddenly had a 150 hour per month cap and was newly coined as 'unlimited for personal use'... I've also heard many stories about Verizon dropping customers who exceed their 'unlimited use' bandwidth, especially with their EVDO mobile broadband service...

Sorry folks, this is a reality and they are already doing it... It's just not 'official' yet.. ;)

(From a money grubbing corporate perspective, surely you must have seen this coming.)

Yes this is just speculation, but the point is, how are we to stop it if we don't know its going on? The point is to question things, and the general support of the philosophy of net neutrality, of which everyone here takes advantage of everyday. Generally speaking, corporations only care about their money, not your internet or your freedom on the internet. Furthermore, assuming you are in the United States, you live in what is supposed to be a democracy, which means ran by the people. If the people are not informed and does not ask questions how is this thing supposed to work? This is about the freedom of information.

Let us never tolerate outrageous conspiracy theories
