Message 791921 - Posted: 3 Aug 2008, 8:16:12 UTC - in response to Message 791334.

How are you holding out Mark?

I am holding out OK.......seems I have faltered....but I guess smoking a pack a week instead of a pack a day must be some kind of triumph after 20 years of the crap......and I SHALL cease it entirely before it kills me.

Thank you again for all who have supported me.......I hope I have given all others who are trying to quit the kill sticks some support too......

Mark, My wife and I quit for about 6 months about 12 years ago and we were doing great until we went back to Philadelphia. We found that the hotel we were staying at allowed smoking everywhere. To make a long story short we started again, but one of the things we do is to go outside whenever we want a smoke. We made that commitment Back In '94 and have not smoked inside since. I am down to about a half pack a day and my wife smokes a bit more, but we are down from 1 to 2 packs a day. and we will be quitting again soon. they are getting way too expensive.
So stick with it I know you can do it.

Bob

Message 792089 - Posted: 3 Aug 2008, 16:12:29 UTC - in response to Message 791458.

I haven't seen this idea in any posts yet Mark, so I am offering this as an added incentive.
Google.......cats & second hand smoke........

Thank you for the heads up.
I read some of the articles and yes, second hand smoke appears to be very bad for cats....

I never thought about it, but you know that smoking indoors permeates everything with smoke.....just ask a non smoker if they can smell it on your clothing.
If it gets into your clothing, it certainly is going to get into kitty's fur, and when they groom themselves, they are licking the smoke residue from their coat. As well as breathing it. And that can't be very good for kitty over a long period of time.

Soooooooooo....aside from me worrying about my own health, another good reason for me to stick with it and kick the habit for good.

I am making progress....

Took the remainder of the last pack I had and tossed it in the kitties' litter box....LOL. I won't be tempted to light one of THOSE up this weekend.

No more second hand smoke for the kitties.

Hi msattler.....how are you doing?
Every time I visit the webpage of the Phoenix Mars Lander and look at the mission days counter, it remembers me the tough challenge of quitting cigarettes.
You and the Mars mission have advanced about the same distance in time and with similar success....
Hard job.Great job.

Thanx Dirk.....
I would not quite equate giving up the cigs with making it to Mars....but you're right, it sure seems about as tough.
I am making progress.....since the articles I read about kitties and second hand smoke, I have promised the kitties a smoke-free household. I snuck a half a one earlier, but forced myself to go out to the garage with it...which is a bother compared to sitting on my rear end on the couch in front of the monitor smoking away. And that is a good thing, the bigger a bother it is, the less motivation I have to light one up.
So I am a little closer to landing....LOL.

BTW....congrats on the new mod tag. If you have any questions about it, you can PM me any time.

Mark think of the bother you would face if you went outside to smoke when you slip. That will make it easier for you as well. :)

Bump...
Mark, hope you are still hanging in there and have not strayed off the path. It's been a a bit over a week since you last posted in this thread.

Could you provide us with an update how you are doing with the smoking cessation?
Have you taken any more photos with your digital cameras you would like to post for us?

No new pics at the moment....I have been very busy the last few weeks working OT at the fire truck factory. No complaints, I count my blessings to have a job with an employer that is still doing well in the current economy.

As to the smoking.....
I am still fighting the good fight, but it is still a fight.
I have been sneaking a couple here and there, but I have been taking them out to the garage so I am not smoking out the kitties anymore.

I will get there.

Welcome back to the boards! Your new kitty poem was a delightful read.
How have you been doing in your smoking cessation campaign the past 2 weeks?
