The kitties will forgive, we already have, now forgive yourself.

Life is almost always one step backward for every two forward. Time to step forward again.

I am soo sorry, my friends.............

We'll get over it. Now you need to. Quitting cold turkey is a bitch. Toss the rest of the pack and get going again. Everybody stumbles. The key is not to fall.

I am so sorry to have let you down after this long.......but I would not lie to you..........

Oh, cummon Mark, put them away. When I gave up smoking for the 3 years I had an almost full pack of Marlboro in my desk drawer right here where I sit. It's mind over matter and what matters is that you can do it! Leave them alone!

Mark will leave them alone when he's ready. Remember what I told you before Mark..... learn from this. Learn why you did it & why. There's an important lesson here, & you don't walk on water. Quitting smoking is not for everyone, & this doesn't mean you're weak. It means that you're just like 90% of the other smokers. I quit for 3 years & had one one day when I was about three sheets to the wind.

Alcohol produces low will power, & I have a feeling this was your problem here. If you quit again, you may have to cut back drinking a tad. I haven't quit drinking, but I know my limit. Good luck & never underestimate the power of psychological addiction. In some ways it's even stronger than the physical end of it. The psychological end of it will come even after years of not smoking. It will strike out of the clear blue. And if you're too brittle when it hits, you WILL be reaching for a smoke.

And Mark..... you don't owe any of us an apology. We were all rooting for you and still are. But remember..... you let yourself down ultimately. Not us. There's a lesson here. Yes you had a cigarette. Big deal. I've probably smoked a pack or two even after I quit. But I came back, & so can you.

Good luck! (And BTW, I lied to my friends that I had a moment of weakness!)

Mark,
Ice's suggestion is a good one. Just knowing you could have another anytime, but you won't.

Everybody has their own way with dealing with a 'bad habit'. It's no easy thing to do, I know from experience, and the first few weeks are the worst I know full well. Every morning I tell myself not to have a cigarette, to wait at least and hour or so, but every morning I think "why should I wait, or give up?". I can leave the excess food out, I can force myself jogging every other day, so why can't I force myself to quit smoking?" It's because force regarding smoking doesn't work with me, I have to take example from someone who can quit.

You're the man Mark. I'm watching you. Your failure or success could influence millions, or me at least ;)

Keep it up good buddy

You are learning about yourself and some of your limitations in a concentrated way.

You will make it, but need to be on watch always.

We are rooting for you to win the war, and the loss of an off battle on the way is all part of the campaign.

Don't go beating yourself up Mark, theres no need. You're not super-human any more than the rest of us are. I gave up May 2007 after a lifetime of smoking, and yes the first month was the hardest. It was just simple willpower, I could have smoked I just chose not to. We are all different, it's obviously easier for some than others I guess. In my case I was really a social smoker, not so much hooked on the nicotine side of it.

But as I warned in my earlier posts, in the early stages of giving up, you tend to drink more to compensate, and you do need to be wary of that. A belly full of booze makes all the good resolutions go out of the window.

Now then young man, I'll tell you what I will do. I will reinstate my £100 pledge starting again from now, but with one difference. £50 will go to you and the other £50 will go to the cat charity you have been writing about. Everyone deserves a second chance in life, you as well as kitties.

Deal?

Done deal.......
Anything for the kitties.......
A fresh start is a good thing......

And thank you for understanding.....your words of encouragement mean a lot.

Get one of those break-glass-in-emergency fire key boxes and fit with the most disgusting brand of fags imaginable?

There's a very good series of stories around a Terry Pratchett Discworld character whom always kept a half drunk bottle of whiskey in the unlocked bottom drawer of his desk... It remained half drunk.

Good luck!

The smell, taste and throat gripping harshness of Russian Black ciggies, together with their price (here) should drive anyone to quit.

£7.89 for a pack of 20 is at dollar eqivalents to $15.70 for a pack of 20

... I remain half drunk.............

If you're into thoughtful humour and real-world satire in an otherly worldly context, then I can well recommend the Discworld series.

It should keep your mind off this world for many hours. Should also raise a few wry chuckles along the way!

Start at whichever book fits your likings. They are all full of very real character... The first two books are a bit of a travelogue. The rest pick up on various interesting ideas. A good selection to look at for s@h-esq crunching has just got to be for HEX.

Hey, we might even get some good ideas from there for speeding up your kitties! (A mouse is included...)

Have fun!
Martin
