Yup....the thought processes and habitual part of it are gonna be the hardest to overcome....even when you know it the back of your mind what is really going on up there....

Hey, many years of Pavlovian training is enough to send anyone barking (coughing) mad!

That should be very character building for the better to break out of.

Hang in there and good luck.

Hopefully your taste buds will start to work for you soon so that you can taste the difference.

Good luck,
Martin

Just bumping the thread up to see how Mark is doing. This month marks that my mom has now been 8 months smoke free. After her last hospitalization, she has not touched a cigarrette (probably spelled wrong, sorry).

My mom quit cold turkey, didn't really have much of a choice. But she definately can tell the difference though.

I hope you continue to be strong Mark, and succeed in quitting. I'd hate to see anyone who smokes wind up in the condition my mom did. It definately was a scary time, I thought with how bad my mom was that she wouldn't pull through.

I'm still doing OK.....tearing my hair out a bit now and again...but holding in there.

Thanks again to all of you who have been supportive.....
I almost broke down and bought a pack tonight, but then I started thinking about how I would break it to you all here, and that was enough for me to resist it....

Just think of the awesome cruncher you will be able to build with the money you are saving! ;)

Just keep hanging in there Mark. Just remember that you have the backing of all of us and that the advantages of quitting far out way the disadvantages.

Hang in there and stay focused.

If you're suffering a bit, try going for a brisk walk or get yourself engrosed into something thoughtfully interesting.

Next you'll be needing to do a thorough clean-up to get rid of the lingering stale smells as your own sense of smell and taste come back.

Avoid using "air freshners", they just add to whatever stink regardless of what the advertising claim!

Good luck,

And good smoke-free crunchin!

Cheers,
Martin

Good for you resisting the buy a pack temptation, Mark

Again, another week end, and you have got through 2 which were worse.

Keep up the good work, and try not to go bald!
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

Decided to buy myself a present, partially paid for with the proceeds of not smoking.....I am sure I've kept at least $100.00 in my pocket since quitting....

Gonna try to pick out a new digital camera this weekend.....

Maybe some new kitty pics on the way!!!

Ooooo!!! Good choice! Or wait for a couple more weeks & buy a really sweet one! Let us know what you got, & what you traded it for! An added something is that you're helping our faltering economy.

What did you smoke before? I just stopped by the drive-thru the other day and Marlboro was $4.08 a pack. WOW. Am I ever glad I quit 3 years ago. *pulling up the calculator* I saved about $4380 over 3 years.

(Funny, I still feel broke)

Pall Mall straights.......and they were over $6.00/pack since Wisconsin added an additional $1.00/pack tax the first of the year.......

Don't forget Mark, I pledged £100 ($200) if you kept off the fags until Xmas. That still stands.

Well done so far.

Speaking of promises, how's SETI.USA going? I see zeitgeist seems to have dropped off. Is the promissory note for the auction still being upheld?

I was going to check on that....I think the first installment is due July 1st....

EDIT....after reading the Seti USA bid again, it looks like the first installment payment is due at the end of July for July's crunching....

Heh. It's the gas, Dune. We're all broke.

I figured it out and I quit 24 years ago. Yes, I'm as old as dirt. Maybe the fact that I scared the crap out of myself at a relatively young age is why I'm still here.

Hang in there, Mark. Maybe then we'll all be here bitching about the price of new fuel cells in 10-15 years.

Mark just read the thread. I was always too much of a tightwad
to smoke. When I might have smoked the price though piddling by todays'
standards, still amounted to 2/3 of my income at the time.
I am proud of your efforts. Keep it up. By the way have you heard
how John Gant is doing. If you make it to Xmas I'll donate to Fox Valley.
