jegs: I have read the whole thread, so I have seen him "apologise". I don't see the reason for his remarks in the first place, and its not the first time he has done this. I respect Mark very much, and have previously had private e-mail correspondance with him, which was both constructive and pleasent. I think its a little misunderstood helpfullnes that gets him to make remarks like these, and perhaps my reaction is a result of some of the same. But the fact of the matter is that some peoble are bound to end up with Phenoms in their rigs, and its no help to them, to tell them to buy something else. If they step up and ask _what_ to choose, its something quite different, and I would personally tell them that Core2 is the best and easiest way to go, but thats not the situation here. |

My AMD Phenom 9850 is running at 2.9ghz water cooled and is at an RAC of 4629 and still climbing. Core temp is at 53C. |

Hi John. Looked into the TT Tribe. The OCCafe did a nice review. As a test, I suspended QMC & ran Magnetism on 3 cores with Astropulse on the other. Power temp dropped to 71c - cpu & mb ok. As a further test, exited boinc, ran video & opened some programs, temp steady at 39c. This high power temp is bugging me - brand new psu & as my other 2 main rigs have same psu, tried swapping them around - same problem. With water cooling (& I'm no expert), is there condensation problems? |

Since the water is not chilled and is in a closed system - no condensation. The water is just far more effective at transporting the heat away from the hotspots in your system. F. |

Great, thanks Fred. That was my main worry. Will a H20 system help keep all 3 temps down (cpu/mb/power)? |

Must confess I'm not familiar with how H2O systems configure with AMD systems and MoBos. They all come with a water block that replaces the CPU cooler; depending on the system you go for, there could be additional water blocks for other hot-spots such as graphics card, chipset, (on Intel systems - Northbridge), so it really depends on where the temp sensors you are reading are located on your MoBo. I'm sure some AMD H2O guru will be along to clarify shortly. F. |

Thanks again Fred. Not long after building my 9500 quad, I finished building my Q6600 quad. However, within days of completion, it was sold(offer I couln't refuse - which enabled me to add to server & workstation). Should have kept it & tried selling the 9500. Did intend to add another 2 quads to my farm (AMD 9600 & 9900), but I personally think that AMD really messed up this time around. Both AMD X2's have been running sweet 24/7 with nary a problem. Sorely tempted to go for a Nehalem dual socket HT - 8 cores 16 threads..... |

I have not had any problems with the Tribe. I did have to put a fan on the northbridge; temps got a little high for me. I did notice a drop in the coolant level after 2 months, but did not have a leak. I imagine that was just due to evaporation, since it is not a closed, pressurized system. I will post some temps from that rig when I get a chance... Clk2HlpSetiCty:::PayIt4ward |

Here is a screenshot: Northbridge is at 35C, with an added fan attached to it. Otherwise it was running at about 45C. Clk2HlpSetiCty:::PayIt4ward |

Thanks again John, really appreciate it. This power temp problem is literally doing my head in. While stripping quad down, I realised that I was a bit lax. Tidied up the cables & rearranged airflow. It has made a slight difference. I was getting Condensation mixed up with Evaporation. Thanks for the advice & I'm going to try water cooling. Even if I only get a 10c reduction, it will be good enough for me. The only conclusion I can come up with is that with all the components inside the case, the current cooling system is insufficient. |
