I have had my Mac tower since fall of 2001, a G3. I've been running OS X since I purchased it that year. But, the computer has Classic OS 9 System folder on my hard drive and I want to get rid of it. Can it be removed??

Sure, if you don’t use any of the old programs and don’t have any reason to boot into OS 9. Just drag it to the Trash; likewise for the “Applications (Mac OS 9)” folder. You may want to burn them to CD first, just in case: if you haven’t used them at all in seven years it’s pretty unlikely that such a need will arise, but disks are cheap …

One of the main reasons I bought this G5 instead of waiting a few weeks for the Mac Pros to come out was that I still use several apps that aren’t available for OS X or whose successors are too bloated or buggy for my liking … but I’m probably part of a vanishing minority by now.

As was already mentioned, if you don't boot into OS9, and if you don't use any OS9 applications, then feel free to delete the OS9 system folder and the OS9 applications folder...

But be aware, removing the OS9 system folder also removes the functionality of the classic emulator in OSX... ;)
