I'm running PCLOS2007 and I just installed BOINC form the distro. It runs fine BUT... I don't like staying logged in as root all the time to keep the program running (even though this machine is a dedicated SETI machine). I tried adding a startup line in rc.local but the boinc manage then complains that it can't connect because BOINC is running is a different directory. What did I miss? I just want BOINC to start at boot if the machine goes down and I want the BOINC manager to find it wen I check on it. HELP. |

Just to update what I've tried so far: I got BOINC to run as a daemon by putting a line in the rc.local /root/bin/boinc_client -dir /root That worked fine until it needed to communicate through the net. Then I got a complaint about it needing an internet connection. Don't know what to do with that, so I'm back to staying logged on as root until I get some HELP! |

If the version of BOINC from your distros software repository isn't working correctly, then you could switch to the version available from the download page. You can install that one wherever you wish, however you wish. You could also consider posting a bug report, in your chosen distros bug reporting system, to help them fix the problem. |
