is the any chance of upgrading the cpu column of the "your computers" page to show overclocks, not just stock speed? i run mine at about 2.9ghz, but it always shows up as the stock 2.6 ghz. also, while im thinking of it, maybe even ad a "ram" column too. if seti can figure out my exact windows service pack, why cant it report how much ram i have too? not sure if this would do much scientifically, but it would be a nice way to compare how overclocking one computer compared to another measure up.

There's no need to clutter up the "My computers" page when the RAM information is stored in the host link.


Detecting overclock speed would involve adding speed detection to BOINC which would add to its complexity. As it is, BOINC only needs to query the OS or CPU for the CPU ID, which includes the stock speed among other things. No complex speed detection algorithms necessary in the current setup.

While it may be somewhat useful to have, I'm not certain such a feature would really add to aiding the science itself more than it does comparing machines.

yes i would have to agree that it wouldnt help find ET but would be neat to compare how overclocking affects your output, either in a positive way (increased good work done) or in a bad way (computational errors)with the latter being somewhat useful to you guys. unless you have something further to add, you can mark this for close, and thanks for your time

Ask yourself this question: How does overclocking increase the floating point capabilities of your CPU?

If you can come up with the answer, you'll know why this isn't too useful an option on the Your Computers page. :-)

(Seti uses the floating point unit in your CPU to do the scientific calculations in the tasks you get. Clock speed doesn't matter on this.)
