Well we all know what it's called and we all know how many cores the next SKT will have.

Nehalem and 16. That will be one hell of a beast. Looking at finding the funds for a windows version.

Then we'll have to chase Satan for a ways. ;)

And to think I've just bought a Q9300 cpu(M1 stepping), It's going to have some PC2-8500 ram(2GB) and an Asus P5K Deluxe motherboard for a 4th Quad, Heck maybe I'll be able to catch Geek@Play then or maybe not.

Curious why you selected that CPU over the Q6700? Will the higher Bus speed out do the higher clocking? Thought about getting one but thought the drop in cache may be slower.

From what I've read some Q9300 cpus will do between 3.5GHz and 3.8GHz and I'm paying only $346.81 total, Sure It's more than the cost of a Q6700(lowest priced on ebay is $279.99+2.02 or $282.01 total or $64.80 less than the Q9300 cpu), But then the Q6700 is a 65nm cpu and the Q9300 is a 45nm cpu, So It should run cooler and use less power too.

I picked up one of the Q9300s on eBay for $225 + shipping. Still don't know about the performance, though. It's only been online since 5/11/08, so the RAC hasn't stabilized yet. I didn't try OCing it yet, also. Temps looked a little high for me with a Freezer 7 Pro cooler (I don't like them, but that is all they had at the local PC shop). Here is all you need to know about the CPU. As you can see, all 3 temp programs read differently. We shall wait and see what the RAC stabilizes at.

Cool I will watch your machine and see how it does. I got the Q6700 because they won't be overclocked and I hope that was the most bang for my buck. Got mine at tiger for $259....I was just curious...thanks.

Looking at your results it is quite a bit faster than my stock Q6600. Will check it with my stock Q6700 when I get some results.

No problem, I just bought a P5K Deluxe for $154.99(DDR2 version), Which may be higher than elsewhere, But It's within My budget.

And If "Who?" had enough Skulltrails(I think He has 2), He could call them the Skull squadron. ;)

Looks like the Q6700 is a bit faster...300 - 400 seconds...

And I just picked up a Q6600 for $175 + shipping. Should be here tomorrow. Gotta love eBay...

Now to OC the q9300 just a bit...

Why Q9300 ?
The Q9450 have higher L2-Cache ! ;-)
..SETI@home will profit from it much.. that's the reason why AMD is so slowly.. :-(

Look what Who? dragged into the race, i sincerly wonder what that is?

It's the same family and model as the latest series but 8 cores?!

What do u think guys :) the same as me?

Let's not believe the date associated with a host, if so then Fred W started his Q9450 last June... We all know he acquired that chip less than a month ago.

This is the V8SS , it is a S5000VXN board with 2 Yorkfield prototypes 3.0Ghz that I demonstrated at computex.

here is the pic of the baby: here
(the machine, not me :) !

This was the last stage before the Skulltrail board.

I will not put a Nhm on SETI anytime soon, sorry :)
