I won't forget the App...What kind of RAC should I hope for at stock? My Q6600 is now over 3300 RAC stock. Where it is in LA we have power flucuations every afternoon just after 5 PM so I had to leave it stock. The way we get shutoffs I feel like I am in some 3rd world country at times. The 6700 is almost 11 percent faster at stock than the 6600, so a rough estimate would be about 3660 all things being equal.... Of course the chipset in the new mobos may respond a little differently than your current rig, and the RAM may not be at the same speed, so it could wash out a little differently...... My plain old stock Dell XPS410 Q6600 is over 4200 with AKV8, FYI (if what you mean by "stock" is non-OC'd processor or memory). So if you're going to put the new app on it, I'd expect well over 4K. Unless it's not on 24/7... If what you mean by "stock" is the "stock science application", well, then never mind. Oh, and this is my daily workhorse machine, so I'm actually using it for various (not very demanding) things during about 1/2 each day. |

We were referring to stock clock speed.....and he is already running the new apps on all of his rigs...... "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

At these prices I would expect to see a lot more upgrades from Seti folk. Asus says the onboard video is good on this board so I will give Photoshop a try before I even worry about putting her video card in it. Figure if I can cut out a big video card I can cut a bit of heat. These computers are going in small cabinets. My E6420 is in a cabinet it hardly fits in and while I am here it is overclocked to 2.4 and after 2 weeks is still at 48C I have one side cover off since the cabinet isn't used for anything else. That one has a stock CPU fan and is on an ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 $50 motherboard....Man am I getting cheap or what? Official Abuser of Boinc Buttons... And no good credit hound! |

Well, then my Dell is a good system to look at, it's completely stock! I think it was running around 3K on 2.4V SSE, so it was a little slower than hiamps's Q6600. -Dave |

I would say so!!! If you can end up with a solid 4K cruncher for under $400.00....... Might fine! "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

If you like you can keep tabs on my QX6700 that I just brought online yesterday. It is a QX6700 running AKV8 at stock speed on a Asus P5KC MB. |

Setup of the MB went fine. Had some problems with the power supply in the case I used so had to get a new supply. That Qx6700 and MB replaced an old P4 so it started out with an RAC of about 950 yesterday. (It took over the P4 Seti account) [edit]It is also running headless. No Keyboard, no monitor, no mouse. I log into it over the wireless network if I have to change something. Otherwise it sits in the corner crunching data and warming the room. |

It is running quite a bit faster than my Q6600, now I am getting excited...My Partner (mother) had computer problems today, now she is starting to agree with me that her computer needs an upgrade also...The ones getting replaced will be recycled into a couple computers for my neighbors kids, then maybe hers will stay running... Yeah now that I have PC3 up with It's new(to Me at least, It's donateware) MSI 975X Platinum v.2 motherboard(It's using the gigabyte drivers from the dead ga-965p-ds3 and an Intel Ethernet driver as MSI's all in one Lan driver doesn't have a working 82573L driver inside It), But like I would have said earlier before the forum and everything else went poof(Thanks for fixing It Matt), You are in sight, But just out of reach, I'd need another quad or two to catch You I think, So You're safe Geek@Play, From this Joker at least. We get power failures here when It gets really windy. PC3 @ 3.2GHz exposed! The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |
