That anyone would bother putting a Q6700 on? I want to upgrade a couple POS terminals and they have to be Ultra Micro and all they will do is run seti and the POS from the server...I like Asus because that is what I have always used and I understand the Bios usually. I wanted to get P5GC-MX/1333 MB's but a vendor I was going to get them thru said they wouldn't work...Now they are closed...pcclub...

How about a P5E, have 2 off them, X38 CHIPSET (1333MHz).
Not really cheap, but good.In OC'ing too .
(American Megatrends BIOS,2MByte, can be flashed, socketed)

How about a P5K? ~$150 after mail-in rebate from NewEgg? Not exactly cheap but not crazy expensive either. It's replacing an XFX 680 SLI that I believe is slowly going off to motherboard heaven. Beside, the BIOS stuff in Asus is so much more detailed and advanced, easy OC'ing. I have an Asus Maximus Formula that makes even idiots like me feel as if I know what I'm doing. Good Crunching!

The P5K-VM works well for me, it's a micro-ATX board which sounds like what you want, and it has on-board video which can save a little if you're not going to be doing anything major graphics-wise. And it's only $105 + shipping at newegg.

He's talking POS as in Point-of-Sale.

These are cash registers. If the Cash Register crashes, customers walk out in disgust with their money in their pockets.

I wouldn't overclock at all in that environment. I might underclock.

My host Wrongway(Q6600) was using ASUS P5B-MX until Saturday.

No problems, never crashed.... at $70 (Newegg) can't be beat.

Ha, now thats more like it...Ned is right, this one is for my business only the toys get overclocked much. Thats why I am making it as powerful as I can now as these will have to wait a few years to get upgraded again. I could go with Celerons but the price for my total upgrades on 3 machines will only be around $400 each with this motherboard, even my accountant can't argue with that. The machines I am upgrading have to be 5 years old at least.

I think some people may have read POS as a different acronym.

ROFL....never even crossed my mind ...Well made a compromise and get to order the parts for 2 of my machines...that should get me closer to the "big boys".

Well....yes I did misinterpret POS. Too much time spent around folks with a less than delicate nature, I suppose.

Obviously for a Point Of Sale device reliability and not OCing would be paramount. Of course, I believe the board I've ordered offers both...so my research tells me.

For me, the P5K WiFi appears to be superior to the POS XFX 680 LSI it is replacing.

The P5K is a great board but I am trying to save money and just need one that will work and $70 looks good right now. I just opened a new store a few months ago and cash is really tight.

Well guess this one is single channel according to reviews...but the good news is that newegg has the ASUS P5B-MX LGA 775 Intel 946GZ Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail for 69.99
So for the price does everyone agree this is a good board?

too many choices...the ASUS P5KPL-CM LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail looks pretty good also and is the same price. This one does Memory Standard: DDR2 1066 which seems might be a bit faster...

My daughter talked me out of one of them as she does most of our graphics and her computer is only the P42.8 so that one will get played with a bit..The other is strictly work so it will only get a little. The good news is I get to upgrade 2 more in July. The reason I went with this board is because I am going to try and talk a couple friends into letting me do some upgrades and am hoping I can trade up my 2 q6700's for 2 Intel Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450's with the money I make off them.
