Agreed, the nep app really boosts performance alot. But my CPU runs hotter now.

I wonder if my laptop can take this 24/7.

Seti crunching on some laptops has always been a bit dicey......some just are not engineered with enough cooling capacity to maintain constant 100% cpu usage without pushing temps to the limit.....
And the new apps, with their much increased performance, will push that enevelope a bit further and work the cpu even harder...much more work is being done.

So you lappy folks will have to watch the temps a little closer with the new apps.

iv been running 2 laptops for some time now 24/7 they seem to be ok if you keep the fans clean. one is a celeron 1.5 temp is about 62c the other is a core2duo and is a bit hotter at 68c or just a bit hotter but i clean the fans once a week to keep on top of the temp, the celeron has done 142,00 credits in about 20 months. core2duo has crunched its way through 400,000 credits in just over 14 months so id say it was worth running 24/7

If I may interject, here's a tip for those laptops that are borderline overheating:

If you open BOINC manager, Advanced, Preferences and click on the 'processor usage' tab, at the bottom, in 'other options' you may want to change that option from 100 to something like 95 or even 90 or less. Depending on how hot it is normally running, you may cure the overheating problem.

You may want to decrease the CPU usage by a factor of 5 at a time and check how much the temperature is going down.

I did this to a friend's laptop that was overheating and brought it down to an adequate temperature with barely any difference in crunching times.
