I used this program before about 10 yrs. ago. The version I had included a screensaver showing outer space. Is this one different?

There is a screen saver included with the new SETI-BOINC, but the graphics were re-done in OpenGL (to make portability easier between differing systems such as Windows, Linux and Mac) and given a 3D look.

Simply right click on your desktop -> Properties -> Screen saver and select BOINC from the drop down list. Make sure your screen saver is not password protected. Also, make sure you leave BOINC Manager running in your system tray so that the screen saver can be properly launched.

There is also a list of cases there the V5 screen saver does not show graphics. However, the application is still crunching along.

A service install (there is a workaround for this).
A password protected screen saver (major security breach to not have a password on the screen saver).
Some video cards (ATI Radeon appears to be the worst case).
Out of date Video drivers.
Out of date Videl firmware.
Out of date DirectX.
