Very impressive optimization, I wish I had time to do so, but I am busy preparing the next hardware you guys will play with. I am sure you will like it on SETI :)

You will understand what is a memory controler on Dice done right.

Thanks for porting Alex V8 code SETI to PC, I know how long and hard this is ... I tried. ;-)

High who? Feel free to explore the source from the downloads section at Lunatics, maybe it would make a good base for some of the optimisations you had in mind.

Thanks for this, I am now doing around 9 Wus a day instead of my usual 4 so my pending credit has gone up. Hopefully my RAC will too after a few days.

It'll come......RAC gains come slowly.....takes about a 4 week period of steady crunching to adjust to a new level.
Your crunch times have dropped almost in half on some ARs.....very nice speedup.

Bummer about the weekends. Well when you get time the code is in
"Downloads->Seti@Home & BOINC modified source code"

There is just so much stuff in there it's easy to get lost ;D

good luck with the Nehalem thing.

Phenomenal! Q6600 Kentsfield here. Just started using the SSE3 client today and my average WU times have gone from about 2.5 hours to just over an hour, less than half the time. Core temps. have gone up a degree or two as noted. Was running about 60C on all cores, now 61-62C.

All WU's thus submitted that were quorum validated were good, no errors in the client, everything looks fine at twice the speed.

Thank you!

Very impressive piece of work.
I'd never bothered with an Optimised Client before- quite impressed to see my just under 3 hour Work Units complete in just over 1 hour & the just under 30min ones complete in around 15min or so.

The 2 parts on the download page download the same file ... is it because it is not IE7 friendly?

It's a 2 part zip you need something like Izarc or Winzip to open it. Sorry it had to be this way but there was a file size limit on the uploads I could do at Lunatics. If I understand correctly that limit might be being lifted so when I get time, in a few days I'll try swap it out for a single part archive. similar to multivolume rar files, you put the two side by side and open the .zip one, and it can extract all files. No I don't think Windows compressed folders in XP or Vista handles multipart zip, but I could be wrong.

Jason

[EDIT: Later, Looks like they upped my limit, so I uploaded "Windows AK v8 port sources (Single Part)" , it's at the to of the list at lunatics, Downloads->seti@ Home modified sources]

As rather delicate AR balanced PGO was used, you might get better results running vtune on the precompiled binary. That's why I put the debug symbol files in the packages.

Jason

[Later: And if you manage to get Call graph information out, would you mind telling me what to instrument? Everything else goes fine for me but that. I always struggle with instrumenting for call graph, either get app crashes, no data, or vtune crashes altogether, I haven't had the time to prepare a query about this to premier support as yet ]

I see that there are now 3 Windows machines in the top 10. This is surely a strong testiment to the brilliance of those who were involved in making the port to windows. Thanks.

Keep on crunchin..........Who? and UL1!

I think, first and foremost, it is a testament to the brilliance of the original author of the code - Alex Kan :)
