I may have missed a thread about this, but does anyone know how far in the future Boinc 6 is going to be released?

Also, how easy will it be to update to Boinc 6?

Many thanks

Boinc V6 is still in very early Alpha development and requires extensive testing. It is making major changes to both the way graphic are handled and the installation procedures while maintaining backward graphic compatibility. Hopefully by the time is is made public it will also have addressed most of the issues with Vista compatibility.

If it works as expected it should be just a simple matter of installing it on top of the previous version as before. A major change will be moving the Boinc exec files and project data files into separate directory to overcome Vista's "Security" features. This should all happen automatically.

Unknown. We're alpha testing it now and seeing the amount of bugs it has, it'll be a while longer.

Hopefully just as easy as it is to update BOINC now. Possibly even easier as it'll make its own accounts for itself to run with.

Hopefully just as easy as it is to update BOINC now. Possibly even easier as it'll make its own accounts for itself to run with.

The install will take longer though. One of the things that V6 does is split the data and executable directories into two different locations. The migration is done automatically, but it can take a while.
