Yada, yada, yada. So there are those out there who run BOINC on the latest greatest and get to crunch a workunit a second and have a RAC in the billions. Yes? So? 2 of the machines I run SETI@home on are dual 450MHz Power Mac G4. OK, so they have 1.25 GB RAM each, but that's not going to help them crunch, much. Here they are: Apollo and Artemis What's the SLOWEST machine you're running BOINC on? Something that's crunching daily, not a part time thing or something that you used to crunch one workunit on 9 years ago. Something current. A link to it is going to be required, I'm afraid. Go on, show off, you know you want too :) ~W |

It does but it's still about 1GHz faster :) SLOW DOWN! There ARE speed limits, you know! I think I'm tired and need a little lie down I've been working 17 hour days for the last week or so... ~W |

My Pentium II 333MHz system just downloaded another workunit. |

And my 400 MHz Celeron just did a useful Windows 98 test over at Orbit. |

The slowest PC I have is turned off and disconnected, Besides It doesn't really qualify as It's powered by an Opteron 165 cpu(1.8GHz @ 2.6GHz). The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

My Dual PII 400MHz has been crunching 24/7 since I started Seti in the classic days. It's currently crunching for Prime Grid and does an occasional WU for Seti or other projects. |

I used to have a Pentium 133MHz system crunching and intend to get it back crunching soon. |

Didn't Astro of a while ago have a most excellent thread on his adventures with an old P90 CPU...! Now all lost to the black cat of the database... Happy crunchin', Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

An old laptop, Compact/Tosiba, 1995, 133Mzh processor that I intend to get back up and running again 24/7 if possible. Not sure if will use it for SETI or Einstein. Also, an iBook, (2003) will be used and will ask my better 7/8s if I can use her eMachine (2002)-1.8 Mzh processor, also. Split up SETI/Einstein among the four. The sloth machines may do more than I expect if they run 24/7...maybe? Dr. Bob Robert L. Hanson, Ed.D. |

Didn't Astro of a while ago have a most excellent thread on his adventures with an old P90 CPU...! Actually, it was a P60, the first generation Pentium ever released. |

This machine runs 24/7. It's a VIA C3 at 800 MHz. Total Credit 7,225 Recent average credit 10.53 Measured floating point speed 168.96 million ops/sec Measured integer speed 649.2 million ops/sec % of time BOINC client is running 99.9979 % Fortunately, it isn't running just for BOINC. Edit: this machine only crunches SETI, no other project. |

This box has been crunching for almost 3 years, 24/7 volfan1 GenuineIntel x86 Family 6 Model 5 Stepping 2 448MHz [x86 Family 6 Model 5 Stepping 2] [fpu tsc mmx] Gets an average credit of 45.45, but every little bit helps. To think, this used to be my main computer... |

This machine runs 24/7. It's a VIA C3 at 800 MHz. This machine runs 24/7 for SETI, as it has since October 1999. SETI@home classic workunits 1,046 SETI@home classic CPU time 42,917 hours Under BOINC: Total Credit 8,882 for S@H and 5,186 for SETI Beta Recent average credit 14.46 Measured floating point speed 165.34 million ops/sec Measured integer speed 240 million ops/sec % of time BOINC client is running 99.8321 % It's a Pentium MMX 200 MHz Overdrive CPU. Interesting how the benchmarks compare. Joe |

Didn't Astro of a while ago have a most excellent thread on his adventures with an old P90 CPU...! That would be a most worthy winner... er, I mean looser... ummmmmmm. To be frank I'm unsure what I mean but a P60? That's just BRILLIANT. Seeing as were talking unused machines now, I DID have a Performa 400 running the old SETI@Home client back when. 16MHz of screaming Motorola 68030 POWER that was! ~W |

Didn't Astro of a while ago have a most excellent thread on his adventures with an old P90 CPU...! Had a 80486DX66, with a VESA Local BUS system, a (VESA) SCSI-card, half the size off the MoBo, with 8MByte RAM!. Unfortenatly the SCSI-card is broken. These 486 didn't even have cooling problems ;) Worked with EXpanded or EXtended memory and the Disk Operating System 4.01 (D.O.S.). |

Didn't Astro of a while ago have a most excellent thread on his adventures with an old P90 CPU...! 16MHz? I could do one and only one better, 1.79MHz and that was an Atari 1200XL computer which I have now, But It's awaiting a new motherboard and psu brick which should cost Me w/shipping $60.68 total, Would It run Seti? Not likely at this stage as I'd need a C compiler and I'd have to configure Seti to do what Seti Classic did and yet support Boinc and in a limited memory envelope of 64K to 512K or even as much as 1024K, As hdd capacity or access to a hdd isn't a problem, Internet would have to be via dialup as the 1200XL has no ethernet capability. Somebody must have something slower, somewhere. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Fine...I'll get my Dual Pentium 90 out and pull one of the CPUs. Real beast of a HP Vectra 5/90C. Now where did that 30 pin memory go.... Clk2HlpSetiCty:::PayIt4ward |

This machine runs 24/7. It's a VIA C3 at 800 MHz. The Via C3 and C7 are very interesting processors. The integer speed is almost triple, which I'd expect, and the floating point performance is about the same even though the C3 is running at a 4 times higher clock. The nice thing about the C3 is that they're very low power. I haven't got a C3 based machine over 35 watts total, and I have one under 20 watts. For most of my other machines, the CPU draws more than that alone. Fortunately, my primary applications are all integer math. |

I have a few "slow but steady" crunchers in my midst. Hey, they were just sitting there doing nothing anyways. Yeah, they are slow and are not as "efficient" as my newer rigs, but what the heck, now they are "doing" something whilst sitting, and also......I don't pay the electric bill! 1 Pentium II 450Mhz 1 Celeron 466Mhz 1 AMD K6 475Mhz 1 AMD K6 500Mhz 1 Pentium III 800Mhz 1 Pentium III 866Mhz ~Arych Team U.S.Air Force ~Arych |
