The wind beneath my wings, by Bette Midler. A true love song. Better than Free Bird, which eventually came true for me.

Message 742950 - Posted: 23 Apr 2008, 1:50:59 UTC - in response to Message 742734.

Glad you like my first choice Guy.

If you want people to know something big is about to happen have a look at

"Ride of the Valkyries" by Wagner.

Not as good as legs, but way up there. And its Classical. :)

I knew this was gonna be fun when I started it! ;)

We've been sifting through Bette Midler, Billie Holliday, Norah Jones, Eva Cassidy, Loreena McKennitt, Borodin's Polovtsian Dances, Pachelbel's Canon and many others. (Yes, even ZZ Top came up!)

All we can think of is:
Upbeat, happy and something that will be appreciated by the mix of people that will be attending. (Paupers, Millionaires, Management types and Working Class types)

We are trying to strike a balance, of course, as we want to maintain dignity whilst keeping it informal. The wedding is in a mock-mediaeval chapel. It seats around 50-60 people. Drinks and canapes will be served after, so music for about two hours will be needed. We reckon we can well exceed that, but I am close to desperate to find something my Beth will feel comfortable with as she has all eyes on her.

Please keep the ideas coming, no matter how silly you may feel they are. Even if I don't choose one that is suggested, someone's idea may trigger a memory and lead me to the right tune!

Many thanks to all :)

============
A real moving song is "Wind Beneath My Wings"..we have both found that is what marriage and partnership really are... Best to both of you,

Thanks again, folks. I am going to seek out Sirius B's suggestion, and play some to my Beth.
The Planets Suite was always a favourite of mine.

"wind Beneath My Wings" I think I might start to blubber. Beautiful tune.

here are some songs you dont want to be playing there...

Thanks for the tip! ;)

Might be a bit cheesy..but it's such a great song

Nice indeed, Esme. Paul Weller has turned out much excellent Jazz since his punk rocker days. (The Jam, wasn't it?)

Please keep up the ideas. Even the joke-y ones are good.

And sincee thanks for all the good wishes. They mean heaps to us.

Thanks LGMFM.

Not sure if it would be appropriate, but how about....

On Silent Wings - Tina Turner

....Or my personal favourite (can't find a copy on the net at the moment) is The Wedding - Judy Collins

At the classical side, Widor 5th Organ Symphony Opus 42 No1 -Toccata is wonderful. It's very much used here besides our traditional wedding hymn.

At your wedding dance I suggest Roberta Flack - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. Your wedding night will be hot after that song. ;-D

I wish you two a very happy wedding and many happy days to come.

There is this song, composed of a Norwegian writer; Rolf Løvland, and sung by Josh Groban.. Its one of the most beautiful (and breathtaking, i will say) songs about love.. and the strenght in
it.. It can be seen as both a gratitude to God, or a to another person.
Maybe you find it a bit slow, but its strong.. And it has this creshendo feeling ;-)

The song is; You Raise Me Up.

Anyway.. I wish both of you Luck and Happiness ;-)

Thank you for the wish. :) The song is truly beautiful. It has me leaking from the eyes. That's a great accolade from an ex-soldier, believe me.

My partner and I are due to tie the knot on 17th of May, and we are racking our brains to find a tune we like for her procession.
"Here Comes The Bride" is NOT an option!!!
We both have a love for music, but neither of us can come up with a suitable tune for this most important part of the ceremony.
Can anybody please make a suitable recommendation?
I shall post the winner here.

Who are You by the Who (aka the theme tune to CSI)LOL
Ps congratulations and may all your troubles be little ones.

Hi Fuzzy. Long Time No See.

Unfortunately, Roberta's song was played for my Mum's funeral... she and Dad were together nearly 45 years

For a bit fun why not introduce the tune that you do select with the first few bars from the theme of 'Jaws' - That should grab the attention of the congregation. Have happy day what ever tune you pick.
