I have installed Boinc and Boinc Manager on one PC and all is fine. The I installed Boinc on a second PC (on the same LAN) in Service-mode. Now I want to connect from my first Boinc Manager to the second PC.I select Advanced/Select computer Now my questions: 1-on "host name" what should I provide? IP address o the host name of the remote PC 2-the "password" that is requested, which one is? also 3-if I try to connect back to "localhost" the password field is already filled, but if I cancel it I don't seem to have any password working: which one is it? Thanks |

First off, you should make a remote_hosts.cfg file in the BOINC directory on the PC you want to use BOINC Manager from. In this file should be either the IP address or the network name of the other PC. Then you best change the password in the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file on the remote PC to something you can remember. It'll now be set to the 32 character hexadecimal key it got from BOINC. You need to exit BOINC on the remote computer, then edit the file, then restart BOINC to get the file to work. Doing so on your own computer isn't a bad idea either, as that answers question 3. Then the other answers are: 1. The network name or IP address of the other host, as per your remote_hosts.cfg file. 2. The password you just set. For more information, please check this page. |

First off, you should make a remote_hosts.cfg file in the BOINC directory on the PC you want to use BOINC Manager from. In this file should be either the IP address or the network name of the other PC. It can be either the IP address, or the network name. No restrictions based on what is in the remote_hosts.cfg file. The client being controlled uses remote_hosts.cfg to determine if the incomming packets from the controlling computer should be accepted or not. The IP address or name entered into the attach to computer dialog box of the controlling computer is that of the computer to be controlled and is used to find that computer... BOINC WIKI |
